Sheesh, hate this stuff... You guys wait till you get "semi" elderly.. Told Gloria this morning (after hobl'n from Den to Kitchen.."takes walking across a room to get me upright".. Anyway.. Now i'm at full attention..
hand salute "ONE" .. at ease "TWO"..
K.. going to sit back down now.. you wear my ass out.. Tell G that from time to time as well.. Or maybe the other way around.. hmmm.. Anyway.. helow to all.. Pard, Lucky, Trev, Hell's S, Coaltrain, Copper, Caber (last three sound like a rock group) and anyone i missed..
first things to go LOL !!!
Ya been house hunting in the valley?
Oh look, I stood erect and sat down twice before you got that read. LOL!!
Hope all's going good.
Going back tomorrow for a few days. Yep all's well 'cept the weather is a bit stormy. How you doing DC?
auction, Mrs was not feeling well. She woulda been fine as frogs hair if we were going to a yard sale ;<(
I thought missing the auction would demonstrate my deep and abiding love and concern for her, got my butt chewed this morning for turning off the unattended burner on the stove.
Just shows to go ya. (??) Guess I can still LOL though :<)
yeah, I been following the auction thread. Just one of them deals I guess. Sucks though.
Yep, laugh it off and hope for another one.
Sheesh.. guess this proves the ADD thing.. saw it was Coal, do the edit.. Nope i get "access denied"..
Pretty sure it's that bearded hall monitor that wont let me fix my mistake..
How ya doing? When ya moving out of PV?
i was going to give you a call today Lee, but were jumping thru hopes trying to do the whole house thing.. So tired that i was talking to our bud Daisy (he's the REAL old guy) the other night and fell asleep at the computer.. G woke me up bout an hour later.. Daisy was smart enough to go to bed, and i wake up to a mad (ok angry) wife and a blank computer..
Lou i see you missed the colt.. havent read the comment yet, but for what it's worth i checked today in a new gun trader and teh 08 in .380 has gone thru the roof.. talk'n 2-3K now for the non mil issue, and the mil issue (semi rare) in NIB is closing on 5K..
Sometimes you eat bear, sometimes the bear eats you. Whatever that means :<))
I had gone to the bank, got the $$ out and was ready to slip into indebtedness but Mrs saved me :<(
I'm thinking you don't want to know.. but i couldn't believe what they were going for.. This is part due to Colt, part due to the nestalgia craze on all WWI and WWII stuff, and part market, but i couldn't believe how they've gone thru the roof..
Got to go guys, getting called to din din.. (yeah im 6 going on 7..sheesh) later my friends. would sure like to hang for a bit but can't.. couldn't get on yesterday till way late, and will try to get back later tonight, will send pm's if'n you (if'n??) guys arent on..
And the rest of you guys. Early run in the morning. Catch yall tomorrow evening.
Either that or REAL ADD tonight..sure didn't see you.. You guys checking out Cabers old rifle..
I have a book im going to grab.. "Art of the American firearm".. Tiffany & Co.. this things for real.. Caber... CUT YOUR TOE NAILS..
First sorry for calling you Caber (were i let into correct an honest mistake i wouldn't have hat in hand) .. The Rife in question "appears" converted from flint.. this is based on the patch lock box, and a comparison of others that appear very close in age, set trigger, etc.. these are all flintlock and yep yours sure looks converted.. Didn't blow up the picture that showed the bbl.. just the one showing lock work.. at 175% and full screen it sure looks to be the real thing.. Save me the effort of blowing up your foot to the point of nightmares and tell me if it's damascas bbl..Going to go way out on a limb (cause im positive) and say it is.. how bout rifling?
It has rifling
Meaning of course the flint to cap conversion.. The local blacksmith was also the gunsmith of course.. For what it's worth you can find a LOT of info on this stuff thru the better auction houses.. What you have is a piece of "Americana" that serious collectors are paying name the price on.. Deal is that (i know this is obvious, but...) they will never be made again.. Don't touch it.. what ever you do.. DON'T so much as think about cleaning it up.. One wipe with the mrs furniture polish is taking off big $$$'s.. antique arms collectors like to "discover" stuff.. Best bet is leave it just like you have it and start sending out pictures..
Oh yeah one more thing.. Get a list of the Mercedes Bends dealers in your area.. You just struck gold..
