the cops don't want any help.

I can understand the Sherriff's apprehension, after all he feels responsable for their safety. However, if these guys are organized and behave like a military unit and not like a bunch of heavily armed 'crackers' then I can see this being benificial.
TXLUCKYGUY
1. The *sheriff* said that...I imagine lotsa line officers would feel differently.
2. The goals and methods of this group would be at odds with any law enforcement entity.....if these guys operated with/near/with encouragement from the cops, the cops would be directly responsible. Any possible cooperative gain would be outweighed by the likelihood of litigation, criminal charges, etc. The standard of training, use of force, decision-making, etc. is far different for a cop than a civilian ("civilians" have it a LOT easier).
3. I love it when people doing their own thing to make things better....a public LE agency simply cannot operate in the same way LE.
4. Most people, LE, civilian or otherwise, are not suitably mentally prepared or trained to deal efficiently with the type and degree of violence that is de rigeur for cross-border narcotrafficantes. I wish them the best of luck, but you would never see me in fatigues in a hot border zone.

The border is a terrible problem here for us in AZ. The trouble is that even armed citizens will get sued for violating rights and instigating armed conflict more than likely. The law favors the idiots sneaking in and trying to harm us, not those of us trying to make it better.
If they made it legal I would teach warfare courses and use the border as our training program before we send everyone to afganistan..

something for all the returning vets to do,i agree with you TX 100%, a force of private citizens formed along the same lines as our military, fire teams, squads, platoons could cover a large area. They could easily police their own ranks and boot out the untrained/overzealous over time.actually they could run on the same ,or close to, rules as bounty hunters.More power to 'em i say.
TLtactical
Make the border a kill zone... Free for all killing anyone that crosses the line... Immigration and trafficing should be cut down dramatically!
luckybychoice
i'd have to come down for that.

LBC, i would take time off without pay to be a part of that. Let me get my AR built first, then I'm in!!!
TLtactical
Let me know if you need anything for your AR build. We have anything you should need.

a free-fire zone, but only with military personnel. However, since it is not a free-fire zone, I can't really see how a bunch of normal, everyday citizens should be blocked from taking a pleasant stroll or camping in a public park. Now, if they happen to have heavy ordnace with them, then so be it. I hear mountain lions can be dangerous

A kill zone would be very helpful. But until that time comes, they don't want to get near my property. I've lived in Arizona long enough to know what an illegal looks like. And no, it's not racial profiling, it's common sense.
