Hello

My name is Jason. I'm a full time Police Officer in southeastern Louisiana and a Gunsmith. I have over 10 years experience in Smith work specializing in Tactical Weapons, everyting from Full-Auto to Precision Bolt Guns. I have recently branched out to start my own company and am currently awaiting my FFL. I am also designing a machine shop that should be up and rumming no later than the first of the year.

I am a Glock, Sig, Beretta, Benelli, and AR armorer as well as a certified Professional Gunsmith. Athough I specialize in Tactical Weapons, I do work on anything with a barrel, including airguns. I have recently completed restoration on a Winchester 1865 in 38 WCF and a Marlin 1894 in 32 WCF, including hand fitting and finishing stocks, complete disassembly and soaking in my "special sauce", reassembly and function testing and , of course, a test fire.

If anyone has any tech questions I will be more then happy to help.

I am also a certified Law Enforcement instructor. I am a Taser INTL., Defensive Tactics, Weapon Retention and DIsarm, Spike Strip, and Use of Force instructor. I should also be going to State Firearms Instructor school early next year.

I am a former Marine 0311 who served with Security Forces and 3rd Marines.

Dockit-

I have built ak's in the past, but only partially. The riviting is a pain in the a$$ and the build requires special fixtures and jigs to be done properly from start to finish. It is on my list, but most in my area are AR nuts. There are a few AK guys but they all either buy complete rifles or send their recievers to the few guys who specialize in AK builds.

As for being overqualified- thanks for the complement, but I am a young pup in the buisness and still have a lot to learn.

Guys,

I was thinking of posting some Technical type stuff in the Firearms section on some various topics involving tactical weapons. Some ideas are:

AR15- Gas Piston vs Direct Impingement

Practical Accuracy for self and home defense

Purpose driven configuration of tactical rifles

What you really need in a home defense/tactical shotgun/carbine

What carbine caliber is optimal for defense

Combat pistols

There will be others as I think of them if there is interest. I'm not trying to do anything but help people make informed decisions when thinking about defensive firearms. I am by no means an expert, but I have some good experience and some knowledge on these topics and am hoping to spur intelligent and meaningfull threads to help everyone become more knowledgeable and better informed. I know not everyone will agee with me, but that is the good part about it. My only goal is for everyone to become better informed.

Let me know if your interested and I'll start putting some stuff together.

I'm smarter than that. Remember I have a gunsmithing buisness. I'm not going to cut the smiths out of the loop. And it has been my experience that trying to teach someone over the internet how to true a bolt action with jb weld, a havk saw and jb weld is just asking for trouble.
