Come over and stay longer. We all colonized at one time, even had to eliminate a George. LOL
Hope you enjoy the site. Glad to have you! Sounds like you would make a good American.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks!

I'm from York, a small (ish) city in the north of England. It is a pretty cool place, lots of history and all that!

Guns in the UK....well, they are banned (all hand guns were banned in something like 1997), so we can only own de-activated pistols, or pistols with filled barrels that will only fire blanks.

I have an 8mm (odd, I know)Glock 17 and Beretta 92. I also own a de-activated from new Walther P22, which is pretty rare over here and cost me £500, nearly 1000 USD!!

It is a nightmare, we can't have any pistol shooting over here, hence why I make the most of my time over there with you guys!

Are there any other English folks on this forum??

I speak English and stayed in a Holiday Inn Express once...

I have a 1966 Chevrolet El Camino. Just redid the front suspension with tubular a-arms, coilover shocks, bigger spindles, 12" Camaro disc brakes, installing a Fuel Injected LT1, headers, cam, etc. Putting a Ford 9" NASCAR rear truck arm suspension under the rear with disc brakes. New everything else. Lot's of fun. Have built and raced cars since I was 12 years old (GoKarts), boats, dragsters, Nascar stock cars, 2 Corvettes and 2 Porches, so yes I have been around cars for awhile. Would love to see pictures.

What i can't figure out is how this could happen, was it one of those, no one really put up resistance, and you didnt have the Lobbing efforts that we do here with our N.R.A. or what.. Did they confiscate the old piesces that im sure most of you had.. Really curious about this, and so very sad.
Don't take this the wrong way, i promise you im not braging here. Wife and i live 3 miles from a locally maintained range. it's sorta a hang out obviusly for all the local gun lovers. Also have a p22.. love the piece. Been a collector for 35 years, and for some reason this is the first Walter ive owned. Glad your a member brother..

Welcome Chris Uk!

I hope you enjoy our forum. Feel free to contribute to the forum as much as you like. I'm sure you'll find many like-minded people here and I wish to offer my personal welcome as well. I also am a father and both of my sons are members of the forum here. My oldest boy, Ryo who is LittleDragon on the site and my second son Ryu who is Send it Boi on the site. They're a couple of very curious boys, so I hope you don't mind lots of endless questions from them. I'm sure if you have any questions, they'll be happy to help out as well.

This site really is

This site really is fantastic, thanks for all the replys guys, I feel at home already! One of the biggest issues I have is that referring to weapons here in the UK tends to make people think you are a nutter, or have strange ideas. I just really appreciate them as a piece of superb craftmanship, that arfe great fun to use in the right conditions, i.e. target shooting.

This is one of the reasons I love coming over to the states on my holidays. Even most of my mates cannot appreciate this and the fact I love coming over to hire the biggest pick up I can, preferably a Dodge Ram (awesome in my view!).

I have struggled for so long to get the pistols I own at the moment and they have to be kept out of site as not to arrouse suspicions, I kid you not folks. If I ever get the P22 out for example to strip and clean, I have top make sure no-one from the outside can see what I'm doing, otherwise they would panic and who knows what would happen then! I'm not an idiot, just someone that enjoys shooting. My dad may have something to do with it all though, he was in the Army reserves for 20 years and retired as a Major - atleast he sees things from my view!!

Greg AZ - I'm really jealous my friend - I was in Phoenix in 2004 and loved it, went to a decent gun club there too if I remember rightly!!

samD - If someone can give me a hand uploading some pics, I will sort them asap for you guys. Won't be as impressive as some of the metal you have over there though....

Like Lucky said Chris, you are officialy our uk connection, Sam will send the check in the mail real soon..lol. Were looking forward to seeing pics, i have to figure out the procedure as well, as im not much of a tecknoid. Great you still have your father, and he shares the sport.
Your posts have a "walking on egg shells" quality when talking about shooting, so guessing its not a hobby thats real popular in the UK. Your neighbors would have a culture shock issue if they were in my area, were so remote, and prime hunting area, it's common to see open carry at the local general store. our GPS is 34-16-47N by 112-45-30W go to google earth and check it out pard.
Dont drive a Ram but do have two big diesel trucks, ones a 2005 Silverado 6.6 L (retirement present for myself) the others my baby, old beater 93 Ford 250 7.3 L. that has my range pieces and a couple of .22 in it.

Being your UK connection is fine with me, it would give you guys an idea of what it is all about over on the other side of the pond!

I think shooting over here is not really 'mainstream', evben walking around out in the countryside with an air rifle would land you in trouble with the law. Farmers are alour shotguns and there is a decent hunting scene, but that isn't really the shooting I enjoy. Pistol's are my favourite and the odd rifle ( I fired an AR15 this year ) which I enjoy.

I do like the sound of the big diesels, especially the Cummins lumps. I couldn't affort to run one over here, diesel is way over $2 a litre!!

Will get the pics sorted out shortly I'm sure, you can always have a sneak preview in my profile if you wanna see my pride and joy!

To put that in comparison, we filled up yesterday at 249 for a Gallon. and its what 4 litres per Gal..approx anyway i think.. oh by the way i usually post something like "the spell check disclaimer light is lit" but in your case Chris. just consider any spelling errors to be the American version of english.

Will do Greg!!

I think the US gallon is a bit smaller than the UK version. The UK gallon is nearly 5 litres, not that it makes much difference. I filled up my car yesterday and it cost £70....which at the current conversion works out at approx $117, and that is a 'family car' with a 1.9 litre diesel engine!!

4 years 36 weeks ago, 2:31 PM

Anonymous

WTF

1.9 is a 4 cylinder and it drinks diesl like that!! My grannies old for escort was a 1.9 gas engine and it ran 4 weeks on the gas that was in it.

Yep, it has a 60 litre tank or there abouts and I shoulod be able to get something like 600 highway miles out of it. The average MPG on a run is about 48 - 50, but drops to around 35 in town, not good really. It does have 150 bhp though, so not too slow.

Thanks for the personal welcome, I really do like this site.

I'm envious of your hobby, one of the things I like most is stripping and re-building my de-activated pistols. Recently found a brand new and boxed Walther P99 for £550, quote a large sum, but what a piece. The biggest issue is that it of course a fancy paperweight - it has been de-activated!!
