HOG/Wild Boar Hunting.
Lately i've been thinking about relocating to florida, and I've heard about boar hunting, I also heard that you don't need a permit to hunt because there considered pest. So fill me in guys, how does that go. Also, when do you go and what your weapon of choice is. Thanks. "If you want peace, prepare for war." |

Will be for you move make sure you can get work here like very hot weather,plus the woods are swamp pigs here like the plameetto bushes and you will be going threw very thick stuff some times.if you go on a out fitters land no permit you can hunt them year round.As for gun 30-30 or like SKS/AK47 SHOT GUN SLUGS BIG CAL HAND GUN,some people use dogs that hold the pig so you can use a knife or a gun,spear, you can all so use A BOW we all so have all the 13 foot AND BIGGER SNAKES that every one let's lose,and every thing else.Oh we got gators every where there is fresh water.If you come let us all know as some of us will go hunting with you.TY

Hunt where you want when you want for pigs, ask permission and most tree growers fruit that is and tomatoes and any vegetables will maybe pay bounty. They will tell you when and what section, churches are good places too for the ederly who have some big spreads left and cannot get rid of them. Guns of choice, like Reaper said and few others head shots are tough with there skulls so thick and bone, but good shot and 22 will heart kill. I prefer a 22lr and revolver back me up. 357 usually. But I have a nice 44 and AK-47, it is up to farmer and how much noise. Most prefer the less noise as possible like the new remingtons 22lrs 38 grain and good heart shot, throw a couple in there and then knife them. Bacon on the hoof. But give it a lot of thought hot as hell and tough to work. But I do love it. JLC PS most pigs not over 400lbs In the next couple of years right in riverview and ruskin and plant city is the first state Ethanol plant going up and city bldgs and farmers growing nothing but corn, goal is florida to be first state to have 20% ethenol in gas in US, and independant, Suppose to bring 300, 000 new jobs when all said and done, will continue in Miami and keys and Naples and Tallahasee. 300 million is already their for start this year. If you know anything about this type of thing from running a frontend loader to ba or farmer or organiser, you should put in and get hired before coming.

Snakes, gators, the wet heat etc... Joker! Look, I was born in the Outback but I wanna tell you what you need to keep an eye out for in Florida... When my wife was just my girlfriend she took me into the Everglades where she hauled me through this nice forest and on the other side was a beautiful blue lake-cum-river and a handful of Native American locals fishing. After a while we turned to go and no sooner had I place my boots back said forest I was attacked by the biggest bloody mosquitos you've ever seen. Not even in city slicker kids' nightmares do they get like that. They're selective too. Not Claudia, not the local lads. Me. They're like the hornets in central Italy where I used to live - they don't go at you and go away, those mosquitos chase you and only breaking cover at the dusty 'ole car park kind of got off. Remember that opening sequence in Men In Black? The bug hitting the windscreen? The Florida Everglade Mosquitos (latin: mosquitisbigisdickis) would smash the Men In Black windscreen into a squillion bits. Snakes, gators, the wet heat. I'm used to those... But be warned 'bout skeetoes.

Yea, i know about florida when it comes to the weather etc.. stayed a summer in ft lauderdale. Loved it. I also have ball pythons so im not worried about snakes, as far as gators go, i heard gator wings & ribs are great ;)

Had a few to terminate the other day.... My weapon of choice, Rem 870 using Remington magnum 3" 00BK...... Wasn't dropping shit! Hit the pig 4 times and he was still running. Took a slug to the back of the head to drop it. After the kill, went and examined it, looked like someone had dumped a couple of mags of 9mm into its chest. So, needless to say, not taking buckshot pig hunting again...

I've seen it done with .22 cal AIR RIFLES. pretty nuts. Some 300 win mags for shits and giggles might be nice :)

in Alabama you can go to a national forest any time of year and harvest as many hogs as you want because they are considered vermin and are not native to the US. They actually encourage that you kill them. I'm not sure if fla is different but i doubt it.

Once you get into it, they are nothing, like Butta, knife 22's and just for what they did to a little kid AK's all around. Nothing left to eat though, but satisfyed the father and mother. Still annot believe the show where the texas farmer let the hogs dig up his ancesters and eat them right threw caskets, and was scared they would get in his house. I felt like reaching in the TV and slapping, NoBitch-slapping that guy untill he woke up. For christs sake buy a 22 and pick them off . don't just watch them tear up the family burial ground and family, Candyass fag boy, His ancestors must have been going crazy that he ended up with the family farm and ranch. On one of my excursions to Hawaii, a buddy took me hog hunting in the sugar cane. No guns allowed, had to do it the native way. Knives and dogs. That was a fun trip!!

I've family that have always hunted them that way..
Crackers one and all, some even card carrying Kluckers. Which is why I avoid being around those specific ones.

Why would someone hunt pigs with a .22 ?
I know that they are pests, nuisances, and don't belong in many areas in which they exist...but I advocate a little humanity when killing any animal. Unless you have a 100% clean shot to the brain (eye or behind the ear) or possibly the heart...it's going to take a few shots to bring the animal down. There's no reason to have the animal suffer; much less possibly get away and die a lingering death over several days.
Pigs are tough beasts. I really wouldn't feel comfortable with anything less than a .30-30, or 7.62x39 for a clean kill. I hunt them with a .45-70 or a .308.

My point exactly... I don't know what kind of pigs you would hunt with a .22, but try that here and you might end up missing a part of you. These things are tough, fast, and mean.

I am telling you from experience you can kill the average pig here in florida with a .22. You have to be confident enough to hit where you aim. But most are 150 to 225lbs and smaller. In the deeper swamps are the tough old Boars. And a slug would put one down in the right spot. Hell buckshot would too. My preference is 30-30 or my 44 mag spl, for a longer older tougher 400lber boar. Theses other ones are like real big rats that are to stupid to get out of the way. Like Buffalo were, You can shoot one and 15minutes they come back and start eating. They are dumb and run or pack charge, but they are dumbasses. JC
