It's been a while. Life's busy, and if I told you all the shitty things that have happened the last few months, you would think I made it all up. So, I'll just say it's been busy, but I managed to get out last week and hunt. Got a nice 8 point buck. I'm going to upload some pics in a little bit. "I don't think Hank done it this way" - Waylon |

Got it on Tues. the week of Thanksgiving. I spent the whole week out there and was wanting to get a buck, hog, turkey, duck(s), and coyote. I was in the blind Tues. evening and this buck came out just before sundown. I watched him for about 15-20 mins 'cuz I didn't want to do like last year and have a big-in-the-scope buck turn out to be a deer I regret harvesting.
Turns out it was the reverse on this one. I kept thinking he was too small and hemmed and hawed about it. Finally, he looked to me and he looked shootable. I took the shot and he dropped dead where he was standing (that's four clean kills now, I'm proud of that).
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how big he was. Until I tried to get him in the bed of the side-by-side. I've decided that Ranger bed is too far off the ground. I couldn't do it. I had to run back to camp and get a trailer. I was hearing the coyotes the whole time and fretting they were going to drag off my kill. I got back and found my deer untouched, got him loaded in the trailer and back to camp to dress and made it to the processor just before close.
I decided to take the next morning off. Sure enough, a big doe was in there that morning. It's probably for the best. I don't have enough freezer space and she can drop more deer this year.
I didn't hunt Wed. evening b/c another hunter showed up and we spent the evening getting a Thanksgiving feast ready. I didn't hunt the next morning, b/c I stayed up too late the night before and I didn't hunt that night, b/c we had our Thanksgiving feast w/ another hunter that showed up that afternoon.
So I finally got back out there Friday morning and evening, but didn't see anything that day. Well, I did have a shot on a coyote that evening, but I didn't take it 'cuz I was hoping some hog would come in.
On a funny side note, I did kill a skunk that was hanging around camp. I popped in the back of the head with my judge loaded with .410 #4 shot. I found later that this skunk has been hanging around the cabin a lot and one night a couple of hunters were startled awake by a loud racket and thumping on the cabin floor. Then a powerful blast of skunk filled the cabin. They said that the skunk got into with a black and white cat that's been also hanging around the cabin. So I said, "Wait, there's been a black and white cat hanging around and this cat was trying to fight off this skunk? Well, hell, I just killed Pepe le Pew." lol I love deer camp.
