Home defense?

I sometimes help some good women and men set up their weapons in case some street fool needing cash comes in their home. There are some folk who easily could keep a small attack squad tooled up and I realize it's easy for me to say living in Bavaria and behind the closed gates of a West Palm Beach community... however, is it really necessary to arm up like this? Really? You know something - if you really want to stop the street fools, then folks, buy the shortest barrel pump action you can legally own in your state, get a NRA instructor like my friend 'Rosie' to train you properly to use it really good, and then relax... You really don't need that Spetsnaz machine... maybe?

home defense

Well, firearms are used by law abbiding citizens to defend themselves over 2.5 million times per year. I think I heard that just last night. A home invasion or breakin occurs about every 72 seconds. A sexual assault about every 92 seconds..and countless other crimes...they run these stats before every personal defense episode. I think I have given the right stats..if not, someone correct me. But I know the crime numbers are unbelievable. And those are just the reported crimes. Many more actually occur, but are not reported. so, I would say you should have some means to protect yourself or loved ones in case you become a statistic.

Not trying to be a twat or a prat but, the difference between *need* and want is leaps and bounds.

I need what ever I happen to be holding in my hand in a defensive situation.

I want and can own every single firearm, knife and martial weapon I have in my 48 long gun safe that I have and will eventually have.

You do realize that Shooting is a sport and many people spend hours upon hours of time partaking in the shooting sport. They spend time testing their skills, improving upon them, helping others do so and it all comes with the value added feature of meeting others of like mind which more times than not turn out to be really good people and life long friends.

I have a number of friends which own Collections of Full Auto Military Weapons which they have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars upon. Many have Suppressors on these weapons which are Pistol Caliber and a couple have them on Rifles up to 308 caliber.

If they can afford them, pass the background checks, follow the NFA rules and want them. Power to them, most have earned that right by spending their times shooting and being shot at for this country or at least spent time in service ready to do just that. Besides that, even if they did not serve they are no less qualified to own what they wish if the can afford them, pass a back ground check and follow NFA rules, they are Americans.

Bushboy, you of all people should know what giving in just a little or having a weakened opinion upon Guns rights brings a Nation. It is not about what one needs, it is about keeping ones rights to own what they want in order to keep that and what they might eventually need...

How many un-replaceable Firearm Relics which where in the hands of the citizens of England where cut up and tossed into a pile because of a Governments fear of the people?

Or those same people allowing it to happen, because some where along the line they allowed themselves to be convinced that the word Civilization held some deeper meaning than a conglomeration of Human Animals living in tightly packed spaces in numbers larger than 2 while assuming all where Human Animals and not Animal Humans?

There is little Civil in many areas of Civilization....

There's nowt you've said Ishootdaily with which I disagree... so long as the bloke buying a $160 assault piece doesn't blow his foot off and expect you n'me to pay to fix it or that he or she doesn't take out his kids when they come home late from the drive-in 02:00 Saturday night. Here in Germany it's near on bloody impossible to own rifles let alone enjoy owning n'improving a rifle! How many should a man own? No limit. Should the lady next door need a 38? Not really, but if she needs it to be safe give her three of 'em. Can most Joes of Joeleens pull it, load it, cock it and deliver the lead where it's gotta go? I don't think so. Yes, I give up - no controls, but let's us good riflemen help make sure the new shots shot when it's needed where it's needed!

BB, an after thought.

They frown upon walking around with a 12 gauge stuffed in your arm pit under a jacket as a self defense weapon in public places....

Home Defense is the topic but what is the position on personal defense out side the dwelling?

no honest man

ISD, yeah it is like when ruger said something like..no honest man needs more than a 10 round magazine...I mean...maybe...not for hunting. But the second amendment has absolutely nothing to do with hunting and he knew that when he said it. It made everyone seeking higher magazine capacities appear ....dishonest.... an unbelievable statement. I sold the rugers I had and would not buy one for many years thereafter. I realize that that is not the current ruger position and I have purchased many since making that realization. Guns owners often feed on their own kind. Very sad.

For home defense any gun will do imo. So I can agree with you that all you would need in your home is a short barrel shotty, but if it came down to a national disaster to the proportions of all hell
breaks loose and the infrastructure fails, then you would be needing WAY more than a 2-4 shot shotgun. If you have the food and resources you know people will come for them, and this isnt some far out idea of an infrastructure failing, it happend in katrina in LA, a big snow storm or flood could do that as well. So being prepared for the worse, could mean survival supplies, i.e. food and water type, and protection types as well. The people who own those full autos will have a better chance at protection, but at the expense of wasting ammo, I prefer a single shot, which you could use in many situations. I carry a .40 with me everywhere, not because Im paranoid, or have ill intentions, but because I am alert and wish to protect my family and those around me for assholes and crazies that have no preservation for life or any kind of common sense(which isnt common at all, should me called not-so-common sense). Ive got more to say but dont feel like rambling on and writing a book for yall, lol. Just my 2cents anyways.

For home Builtf0rdtough I'll have a shorty pump, my knife and my eight yard horse breaking rope... For the national disaster situation I'll have a Sako TRG44, my T/C Pro Hunter 270Win, a grenade thrower, a RPG, a selection of semi-auto pistoles, my knife, the rope, water purifying pills, my compass, a good sleeping bag, my wife and my dog, pencils and paper, my locator mirror, and fire makers.
