how ya do'in

Hi guys,
My name is Chuck but I go by Snoopy (it's a bike thing). I am a Mason and Scout leader. I have recently joined the .45 1911 club and am eager to join the AR club. I just got a Rugar mini-14 as my temporary zombie gun until I can get my real zombie gun. I am not much into the whole AK thing. I think it is probably a hold out from my cold war era military service as a SP in the Air Force. I am a big fan of the Remington 870 shot gun. I own 2 and love them both. I hope to get some good knowledge from you guys and thus far have enjoyed the positive response I have received on the form.

All I need is some ammo, some water, some chips if you've got'em...

Hey Snoopy

Welcome to Gunslot. Sounds like you're already fitting in well here. I like the 870 also, but I think you'll see that many, many members here are very partial to the Mossberg 500 & 590.

Can't go wrong with the Remmie 870, wish I still had mine. I do have a Remmie 1100 that has taken its place. If you have questions, there is a lot of experience on this site. Hell some of these guys were born before guns were invented like our mod samD.

I'm a poor boy on disability so I bought a Mossy 500 on sale.
It seems to do the job I wanted on skeet.
My Zombie gun will have to be my Marlin 30-30 and my
Mossy at closer range
My brother swiped my Colt Gold Cup so I guess my Taurus 357
will have to be my back up

The bro is a TX ranger and Chuck gave him the gold cup out of the goodness of his heart.. That are a pay off to drop an investigation, one or the other.. Oh, and while were making clarifications.. Mike made some smart ass comment about our age, and Sam being older than guns.. That's just a little gunslut jealousy because Mike has to live in Cali.. (yeah we know..we know, but he's pretty normal) Sam is actually older than gunpowder.. But looks pretty good for his age.. Never think he's a day over 95..

And a Gold Cup with Matt finish and pearl
grips looks good on him.
By the way samD is just 3 years older than me
so cut him a little slack. He is still young enough
to hold a gun and pull the trigger.

And to all you young fellas out there.
I've done every thing you just dream about and
got to see 60 so you better take care so you can also.

You know what they say...

Shit.. i forgot what we were talking about..

Lets talk guns... YEAH!!.. On the subject of shooties, told you yesterday, i was never as good with a shotgun as rifle or pistol.. I always qualified expert with the shotgun, but thats because the course of fire was 1) pass fail with bird shot..they would just put a line of tape across the full body target at knee levil (nothing above the knee, and 2) 5 rounds 00 buck, at 15 yds, and if you cant get them all into the K zone at that distance something is wrong.. This was a sexist thing, as a lot of the gals had trouble with the shootie, and sorta guaranteed to keep failures down.. Not a problem either, as the gals were rarely given shotguns to take on the yard.. Anyway when it came to actually "shooting" that shotgun, your pard greg was never real good.. don't think it was recoil, i was just as bad with a 20 as a 12.. don't know just one of those things.. In 85 i bought a wingmaster.. loved it.. never did take a bird with it, and wound up putting a folding stock on it just for S&G's .. Tranded it for a pistola..

The boys in the armory always gave a bit of a nod to the 870 think this was based on the twin operating rods.. But the dept had both, and this was always quite a debate, and the armory's always said NO more probs with the mossy than the remmi..

mossberg

I like the design of the 870. Remington does not dictate to you how many rounds you can put in your gun like mossberg does. I cut my teeth on an old montgomery wards 12GA with a polly choke. it's like your first girl. you never forget the good times. but with the remington. I can add a mag extender and I go from 5 to 7 just like that. not the same with a mossberg. I don't like the fact that your mag tube dictates the barrel you use. I have an 870 express magnum that I call the "get your f-ing hands off my daughter" gun and a wingmaster that I took all the pretty wood off of and replaced it with cheep stuff. short slug barrel and mag extender. lots of fun playing with my shot guns.

All I need is some ammo, some water, some chips if you've got'em...

My 590 has 8+1 capacity and I can still get extenders. The 870 is a better shotgun, but only becuse of the location of the safety.

My mossy at the range

I was shucking the slide slide forward a bit too soon and caught the spent hull halfway in and out of the ejection port, and of course it was trying to chamber a new round, so I had a double feed with 3" 00 Buck magnum rounds. It was my fault, and I haven't had any problems with it before or after. However, I did learn, after that shoot, that three gun rules (I don't know if it's USPSA or the Sierra Vista range rules) say shot size can't be any bigger than #6 shot. So my first three gun attempt had me pitting my big ass shoulder bruisers against fucking field loads. "Course hell, all I shoot is 00 Buck and slugs unless I want to fart around cheaply, then it's #7 1/2 shot value packs from wally world.

my 870

was doing that to me,i added a 2 shot mag extension on,making it a 7 shot, had to grind off two dimples inside the mag tube that hold the spring keeper in,did not get them flush enough,so the extended spring was kind of hanging up,so off to the range, shooting 00 buck and slugs and damn thing was malfuckitioning like a bitch, dremel time and i solved the issue.

otherwise it looked like you were doing good in the match, are you shooting the 34?Looks like a lot of fun.
