Favorite HST Quip..

He was still kicking when JFK ran for president.. For those of you in the younger generation, JFK's Catholicism was a big deal back then.. So on one of Harrys morning walks (that he did in DC as well as independence) a reporter askes him if the American people should be worried about any influence from the Vatican.. Harry says "im more afraid of the Pop than the Pope".. guessing you all know that the Kennedy fortune was made in ..shall we say "extra" legal manor..

Read HST's biography years ago.. he was an artillery commander in WWI, and fought the KKK when he was first elected to local office.. Hard to say how much of that was "sanitised" for the biography, but you have to love a pop who calls out the newspaper critic who slammed the daughters (margret?) white house piano recital.. Think i heard he said he'd punch the sob in the nose.. Can you imagine if that happened today..

Truman

I like everything I've heard or read about Truman. I do think he was a Republican at heart, and I know he and FDR were not friends, in fact I read somewhere he thought FDR was very false and cold.

I would LOVE to get another man like this. I'd love to see a man stand up for his kids and his beliefs the way Truman did, call out one of the media jackals instead of pandering to them. I'll never see it, but still it would be nice.

citizen of the USA, who did his duty for his Country and his People, when duty called. In the long history of the USA, there were probably not too many more gut grinding, soul wrenching decisions than HST's decision to use the A Bombs. He saved hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of allied military lives in having done so, and in the process, may have saved the entire nation of Japan from complete and utter devastation. This was a man of backbone and strong principle. Bibi Netanyahu could learn a lot from Harry S. Truman!!

The reason our folks were Democrats.. Just that simple.. Believe he invented two famous quotes.. the buck stops here.. and if ya can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.. Laughing as im not 100% on either, but pretty sure ol Harrys the author of both..

In retrospect the bomb has become a major issue.. What LLE said is on the money.. remember watching a documentry, this was "after" the firebombing (that can be questioned on moral grounds) the japanese that were interviewed all said the same thing.. They couldn't believe that the Nation had surrendered..They would have fought till the end..

Can't believe that were looking at Santorum, and Romney.. Sad case.. Eddy Haskill, and Ken Doll.. sure their both good men.. Mean that, i am confident their both men of character.. but come on..this is the best we can do..

at least he is honest about his stand on guns, that can't be said for some, I really haven't paid attention to his views on other issues, but he ain't running, either.......I, as a citizen of 42 years am SO disheartened about the state of our government and not just the executive branch, we have 535 members of the House and Sennett that seem to be bipartisan on some things and yet not others (how much does it pay, what's in it for me?). Money really is the root of all evil and we as a country need to CHANGE that, I am not sure how you do that without "epic encouragement" (you figure out what that means) because those bastards and the ones close behind them aren't about to change.....Just a thought.

A-Bombs

Truman made the toughest decision ever put before a leader of a moral country when he used the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but he made it and he lived with it. I honestly believe if we hadn't had a real man with the balls to do what had to be done and stand by and let history judge him as it may that World War II would still be going on. There's just no way we could conquer the Samurai mentality by conventional means, so Truman was man enough to take an unconventional route and get the job done. I can honestly say that I count him among my heroes now.
