Hydro graphic

anyone herd of this Hydro graphic? I think it’s what it’s called. I am having my 17 HMR dipped with a digital snow, I know the guy that just started doing it. gave it to him today. He is dipping lots of stuff, animal skulls, guns, truck rims, truck grills, anything that can fit into the tank. Ill post my pic of my gun when I get it back. Just letting you guys and girls know incase you want it done too.

Saw it

on how it works, or how it's made. One of the Discovery channel shows. Looked awesome the way it works. Supposedly durable and long lasting too. How's it going, Smitty? Long time, no see.

Posting pics

A lot of people been having problems lately. I think there's a size limit and it only takes jpeg? But I don't think that last part's true. 'Cause I'm sure I posted PNGs and GIFs.

hydro dipping

I seen quite a few pics of hydro dipped rifles. I was considering having a rifle dipped in multi cam because all of the pics that I've seen have looked nice and very professional. I just question the durability. I came to the conclusion that I could get better durability out of duracoat, cerakote or similar. Hydro is pretty similar to the thin camo film that comes on mossberg and benelli shotguns and R15 and R25 rifles. I would be interested to know how yours turns out. I know there are quite a few companies offering it now days.

It seems heat and bug spray with high concentrations of DEET can wear the finish, but overall, it seems durable.

yea

deet will smear it right off. I have a few AR mags and 2 shotguns that were factory dipped. I was more worried about scratches. I do like the way dipping looks, It comes out really clean.

Coating

I know they already coat it, but I wonder if more coats or better coating material would be worth looking into. Probably would drive the price to where it's cheaper buying a new stock.

I know that a sticker, better yet, the sticker that says made in America, on the buttstock of a mossberg 835 will peel the paint off the stock,,,be careful. I was pissed, until I bought a 12g holder for the stock..I emailed mossberg, they said they would help, but they never emailed back, thinking back now I should have continued the cause, but now its late, what ever. just know that shit will come off with a damn sticker, no less a sticker the manufacturer puts on there.

Take Dipped

it's been around for a little while, though not many have heard of it. Reason behind that though.

Up until they can make it seriously durable then you are better served with airbrushing with KG or one of the various hardened coatings.

Lady friend of mine has a Sig 229 Equinox that she had Dipping with a Rattler Pattern, looks kinda nice. I would have picked a different pistol than an already tricked out showy Equinox though. Also the stuff is kind of flaking and it is also textured. Personally I feel she screwed up a $1000.00 pistol, but she has it to burn me guesses.

My question....

With dipping is there any chance of the film going inside the bore? And if so, will it affect your clearance in your barrel?

they plug it and I think there is a prep that they put on the areas they want to film to stick also.

Like I've said, I've seen a couple of pistols done in it now and it's ok, but....

I'd rather pick up a cheap air brush and different colors of KG or DuraKote and do my own paint job on one first. Then again, I've drawn and painted since I was a kid. So I don't think it would take me long to pick it back up.

I was looking at this a little while back for my 308. I was going to put a base color coat in cameo on the whole rifle and then have it dipped with a Almost clear Zebra pattern. But after reading up on it and then seeing a few pistols that were done at Wayne Roberts here in Saint Petersburg it turned me off.

The Rattle Snake pattern actually had a texture of snake scales and it was flaking in some areas already where your grip the pistol. I can see where it would wear all the way down to the actual pistol finish in those areas pretty quickly. The Salt, Acid and Oil's not including whatever crap you get on your hands besides that will be tough on it I'm betting and being in Florida it you shoot in day time your going to accelerate that wear.
Humidity, Salt Air, Sand, Sweat, Oils, Acids, so on and so on...

They could have not done it correctly I guess on the one, but the other one I was looking at Tuesday night was a Glock with Tiger Strips and it didn't seem to like being put into and snatched out of the Serpa Holster very much.

Of all the finishes

That I have personally tried...... Krylon is still the cheapest, easiest to apply, easiest to repair, and one of the toughest. LOL!

Ronin,
are you carded when you buy spray paint?
I was buying ground marking paint, they had it locked in a cage and asked for my ID to verify I was over 18...

Clint, took 2nd

I muffed it a bit getting used to new trigger in my 75b. Converted it to SA from DA/SA and put a heavier main spring in to get used to the trigger travel. Once I have that I'll swap it out for a 13 lb main spring which will pretty much make it dangerous for most. 1 lb trigger, 1/8 inch of trigger travel, 1/16 reset. Right now the trigger is about 3 lb's.

no doubt.

After I get used to it I'm going to see what kind of splits I can get with it.

I've actually had a few of the guys get pissy about the triggers on my guns saying there should be a rule preventing anyone from having them that light. eh, if you shoot with one then you get used to it so there really isn't any more danger than any other trigger.

Those people are usually just jealous because they did not think of it, or can not control a piece of machinery with such tight tolerances. But that is just my opinion based on years of baby sitting (general contractor superintendent) and listening to incessant whining..

pretty much. Funny thing is, I have people asking me on a regular basis to tune their CZ's now or to out right build them a comp gun.

Our Tuesday night match is more of a practical practice shoot than a Match. It's IPSC sanctioned. But we're all trying out new things or attempting to improve with different things. Like doing a blind load with snap caps mixed in and then doing rap/tap drills.

There are not any real Ego's involved for the most part.

But some of the guys are so bitchy like it is a National Match or something. The worst is Club Manager, Jerry, he whines and throws hissy fits like a little girl sometimes.

One night I told him his panties were showing, boy did that put his knickers in a knot.
