I realize that it is another great milestone of life, but more than that--another day of thanksgiving. I have a lot of things to be thankful for, starting with having been fortunate enough to have been born a citizen of the USA--the greatest Country to ever grace this old earth. From there follows the family that taught me, socialized me, and gave me a set of basic values that included the importance of continued day to day education, as well as appreciating my fellow "man".
Further down the line, but no less important, are my friends, here. I have learned a bunch of good stuff from y'all, and I have tried to give as good as I got, but allay'all, with few exceptions, have hung the moon.

I will be AWOL for a few days. Gonna take Pennyfeather Annie, and a Daughter/Soninlaw group over to Biloxi for some birthday fun. I have tried to reverse the course of human events and traditions by giving people presents on my birthday, rather than vice versa. It is a hellofa lot more fun, than receiving stuff.

Since I am unable to give y'all presents on my birthday, I at least want to once again express my profound appreciation to alla y'all, and say I hope to be around, bedeviling you for a long time.
The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise [literally], I will !!

Dad hit 80 today. Us "kids" have a few events planned and lots of grandkids and their kids will be there. My oldest and son in law are coming from Denver.
I'll pop in now and then but will be mostly out till Tuesday.
And LLE, thanks for putting up with us and Happy Birthday!

ISD: Thanks.

80 sounds big, but there is a lot of truth to age being a matter of how you feel rather than years. I am very lucky, that I feel great and can even swing a golf club pretty dang well.

Have fun in Biloxi. That is my parents hometown. Dad was born in Ocean Springs. have you been there since Katrina? New Orleans has no gripes coming.

Right after Katrina, when Keesler AFB was closed down, temporarily, the Honor Guards at Eglin and Hurlburt AFBs were given the alternate week duty to cover Military Honors Ceremonies at the Biloxi National Cemetery. Since I was almost like the full time volunteer live bugler, for Eglin, I went on every mission to Biloxi, for the next several months [300 mile round trip]. The devastation was unbelievable. Even the beautiful, treelined entrance lane to the cemetery had been hit hard, with dozens of very old trees blitzed beyond saving, and the beach hotel/casinos looked like they had been bombed.
It will be interesting to see what six years+ of clean-up and rebuilding will look like.
