I used to get laughed at (quiet in the back please)

When I was a machineist I would have long
cuts on a lathe and I would stand there holding
a 3 lb hammer by the handle straight out from
my body.
It is good exercise for holding a pistol out.
Helps take the wobble out.
Try it

ChasW, The pistol team at NAS North Island used .45

magazines filled with lead, put them in the gun and hold on target, worked for them so holding any weight like your hammer is good for shooting muscles.
