I don't live in Texas, so I don't know of any clubs near you, however, I just got into shooting IDPA this year and I love it. It's alot of fun. I'd advise going to the website.. http://www.idpa.com/ for information on what you will need. If you are shooting a glock you will probably be in SSP class. You will need a holster of course, a magazine holster that holds two mags is really nice to have too. You will be reloading while shooting. Also you will need some sort of "cover". Most stages you shoot from concealment. Most guys wear some sort of vest, whatever you wear, it has to cover up your gun so that it can't be seen. Most popular around here is a 5.11 vest. They are expensive though. I've seen alot of guys just bring a loose shirt to wear. Most importantly, have fun and be safe. I think you will like it, you'll meet alot of nice people and it will get addicting.
A "Failure to do Right"? I'll stick with USPSA for fun. I already know when to use cover. USPSA is much more accessible than people think. I took a long time to join because i thought you had to have a 3,000 dollar race gun to do well, but with the Production and Revolver divisions, Just about any commercial gun will work well. USPSA is definitely worth the look, and it doesn't penalize you for dropping a mag when the "experts" running the range say you should retain it.
If you can't win their hearts and minds, then expose their hearts and minds to open oxygen. WHEN IN DOUBT, THIRTY OUT!!
I have seen guys with every imaginable thing on their bows, gps, lasers, camber compensators, custom made arrows. The only thing they couldn't do is hit the target... I like my bows like my women, bare!
