introduction

HEY! i am new to the site, and i have a limited knowledge of guns. i currently have a mossburg 12ga and a .22 browning pistol
im looking for a rifle but $$ is short being a college student
i want a semi auto general purpose rifle something like an ar15 i just want a bigger round
what do yall think of getting an m14??
i like the 7.62 but i dont want an AK because of the questionable accuracy.
i REALLY like the armalite ar-10a4 thats on the cover of the Gun annual 2009 magazine but 1500 is about a grand more than i can spend...
if you have any suggestions or links that you can share i am very interested
thanks alot

Hello, PFC_Gump

The Mini-14 is about all you will get for around $500. DPMS has some great rifles but, you will need around $1,000 to $1,200 for something like an AR-10. DPMS does have some AR-15 between $900 to $1,000. I will look, but there is not much for $500 out there.

i agree with fordvg. you will have a tuff time finding a decent 7.62x51 semi auto rifle for $500. especially an M14! even an M1A will run $1200-$1500. Most AR10's will be north of $1,000. Like he said above... you can look into a mini 14 (.223), or mini 30 (7.62x39). I still think an AK counld be a decent option for your budget. they are fun, reliable rifles. just don't buy it for sniping or competitions.

sks

www.cheaperthandirt.com has a variety of aftermarket parts for sks's.i have two myself,i put on the ATI folder from cheaper and their scope and mount. it really didnt help too much with the weight as these are heavy guns anyway.check century arms for sks's or shops that deal in surplus guns even pawn shops have sks's cheap once in awhile
