It;s a cross between interactive and posting that is a little different. I'm on slashdot, Paracast, and A Duramax diesel forum and they are all a little different, each with their own strengths. But this is the most fun to be on.

pool pumps

does anyone know anything about pool pumps? I loose about 2-3 inches of water a day, and I know I don't have a leak... unless its underground. I think one of my valves is turned the wrong way. the water level in my spa stays consistant and is always full (no auto fill), so its getting water from somewhere. maybe re-circulating it from the pool?

how is the pool/spa set up? meaning spa is attached to pool slightly elevated or is the spa away from the pool but inline with the filtering system? if they are running inline together, it is possible that there is a leak in the return from the spa back to the filter/pool. also evaporation is going to play a slight role. i dont know about 3 inches but it's possible

usually on the AZ summer, I can loose 2 inches due to evaporation, but not this time of year, and i notice the water level drop when the pool pump is running. The spa is right next to the pool but seperated by a wall. no water overflow into the pool. they each have seperate pumps and filters, but both run through the same heater (which is broken...don't get me started on this motherfucker). So since they're completely seperate, i don't understand how the pool level drops, but the spa water never drops (even with evaporation). I have the autofill lin e turned off for both because of a leak, so I use a hose to fill the pool.

I've had many pool people look at it, and some are intemidated, some fuck it up worse (by turning wrong vavles). I have a very complicated set-up. the last owner of my house was a pool builder and so my pool is all tricked out (7 pumps, 2 filters, 3 rock water falls) but now all this shit is starting to break down. the asshole didn't blueprint where any of the pipes and water/gas lines are. this shit gets expensive!

Reaper: re: Pool

On my last pool was a float valve in the decking that would take water out of the pool to keep it from overflowing into the yard. The outlet was plumbed to the street. If yours is so equipped, the float level is set too low. Mine had a round lid like most weirs have. Otherwise, you could have a leak, which is very catastrophic. Have you ever seen a pool sitting 2 - 3 feet above the coping. If they get enough water under them they float like a boat. Worse here in AZ they will sink because of the sand here. Find a good pool contractor, a specialist!

Estimating the Airspeed Velocity of an Unladen Swallow
Hashing out the classic question with Strouhal numbers and simplified flight waveforms.
After spending some time last month trying to develop alternate graphic presentations for kinematic ratios in winged flight, I decided to try to answer one of the timeless questions of science: just what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

What do you mean, an African or European Swallow? To begin with, I needed basic kinematic data on African and European swallow species.

South African Swallow
(Hirundo spilodera) European Swallow
(Hirundo rustica)
Although 47 of the 74 worldwide swallow species are found in Africa,1 only two species are named after the continent: the West African Swallow (Hirundo domicella) and the South African Swallow (Hirundo spilodera), also known as the South African Cave Swallow.

Since the range of the South African Swallow extends only as far north as Zaire,2 I felt fairly confident that this was the non-migratory African species referred to in previous discussions of the comparative and cooperative weight-bearing capabilities of African and European swallows.3

Kinematic data for both African species was difficult to find, but the Barn or European Swallow (Hirundo rustica) has been studied intensively, and kinematic data for that species was readily available.

It’s

Nineveh was the original capitol before Assyria was siezed by the Kings of Assur (Ashur).
The city of Assur (Ashur)then became the Assyrian capitol.
