Just a reminder

The SKS is NOT an assault rifle! A petty distinction, but it irritates me since anti-gunners misuse the term so frequently.

That is all.

Assault Rifle*

* A selective-fire (meaning safe, semi/single, full/burst), rifle using medium sized rifle cartridge having a detachable magazine.

I know you know this, Reaper, but I thought I'd post it for others maybe not so familiar and/or that have been brainwashed by Bloomberg/Feinstein/Brady/etc.

still don't know

I know what SMG's, CQB rifle's, SASS's, precision bolt rifles, anti-material rifles, light machine guns etc... are, but I still don't know what an assault rifle is. If a person uses a sharps to rob a bank and hold hostages, wouldn't that be an assault rifle? These anti-gunners confuse me with their logic.

I see where you're going with it now. Yeah, well the top level ones won't use the term 'Assault Rifle'. There is an actual definition to this term that people can look up and point out the fact that it is not related to what they are trying to ban. Look closely at what the anti-gin leadership chooses: 'Assault Weapon'. Which, of course, is anti-gun crowd only term. But chosen very carefully. Because, to most gun ignorant/naive, the term conjures images of an AK47 or M16.

But at least 'Assault rifle' is a defined term with an accepted usage. 'Assault Weapon' is, to their sheep, an AK47, M16, etc.; but apparently it means the Ruger 10/22, Remington 870 Tactical, any handgun but revolvers, Henry Goden Boy, etc.

I have to say, I am with reaper on this one, we as gun personell, trained as assualt teams use a certain kind of weapon. Italians use something else, etc. The general Media who do not know their toenail from their nose hair, call anything that fires more than once in a reasonable amount of time an assault weapon. The best I have ever heard was when there was an attack on the compound that houses the main planners and supervisors for that Prince ALIbababashithead that is building Palm Island. When it was attacked there were a series of explosions, of course deliberate and normal to divert or take out key things or people etc. The International press came up with that the assault explosives, were followed by assault rifles, and debri everywhere. What is an assault explosive ? JC

Assault rifle...

Is an invention of the Brady campaign and a term that I refuse to use in conversation. I correct my kids every time I hear them use it, and would recommend that all gun owners strike it from their vocabulary.

Assault describes the use of a weapon, not the design of it.

hey upshot.

ya know upshot,i tend to agree with you on that one.assault describes the use not the design.before all the brady/assault ban lingo the government just kinda lumped all those evil things with the rest of the regular guns, witch they are, then they changed their mind and classified them as "assault weapons" especialy out here in Kalifornia.here any semi auto with 20rnd magazine in it is an "assault weapon" totaly stupid.anyway welcome to the site upshot.

Media

Yeah I agree the Media is responsible for the use of this word in modern times...they have misused it in order to support their agenda.
