I wrote to him thanking him for his support of the Secon Amendment (upon advice from the NRA). This is his reponse: McKenn is AG of Washington State and one of the few elected Republicans:
"Thank you for your recent message expressing support for my decision to join more than 30 attorneys general around the country in signing on to the amicus brief in NRA v. Chicago, defending the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
I have been receiving a tremendous amount of correspondence on this topic, and appreciate the opportunity to provide a bit of background information on what went into the decision.
As you know, the right of the people to keep and bear arms guaranteed in the Second Amendment applies to federal laws regulating firearms. The brief argues that the Second Amendment should also apply to state and local laws in the same way that other rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion, apply to state and local laws.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. I look forward to keeping you informed about the work of our office and hope you will consider joining our Listserv or following us on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and the All Consuming blog!”
