Leupold Scope Question
I'm looking for a scope for my custom Mauser. What kind of range is a 10X scope still effective? Thanks guys, It's too late for me, save yourself. |

I think it really depends on the shooters skill level with shooting a long gun. I would say and average guy with average abilities a 10X scope would be good for the 400-500 yard capability of taking any big game species in North America. If your wanting to do precision shooting at smaller targets I would go with a higher powered optic.

Yeah, I'm just trying to save a couple of hundred. I've got so much into this rifle now, I guess I better hold out for a x20 or x24. They are about $750. I'm using this for longer range bench shooting. Thanks for the reply.

10x is fine for anything out to about 800 meters, and I don't know what kind of custom mauser you have, but this is pretty well stretching it if you're using the 8mm mauser cartridge.
If you are using that cartridge, 10x is fine, 20x is too much, although too much is better than not enough.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's chambered in 25.06 w/ a 26" fluted barrel, & a beautiful laminated & oiled stock. Kind of excessive for my limited shooting abilities but I figure - why stop now, it's almost finished. I'll post a couple of pics when it's done.

Yeah, 10x is plenty. You're gonna play hell with the wind at extended ranges with that cartridge.
