Liberal who wants a gun.
Hi, I am a LIBERAL, I also love guns I was married to a man who had about 20 guns of various types and gave me a 38 revolver for Christmas, I had to sell it later. Unfortunately I never learned much about guns from his except how to clean them and shoot them. I am looking to buy a gun for around $500 which isn't much I guess. I think many in people in this country are verging on group insanity so I would like a gun that would be useful against riots and other forms of social unrest. After I buy a gun for protection I would like to get a rifle for hunting but I imagine that is way more expensive. Any recommendations from those who know more is welcome. By the way not all liberals hate guns, some actually are liberty oriented you know, "give me liberty or give me death." that sorta liberal. |

riots and social unrest? Get a shotgun. You can get a very good gun such as a Remington 870 or Mossberg 590 for under 500, then the money left over can be used for ammo to practice with. There are others out there, such as the Winchester 1300, but my main experience has been with the Remington and Mossberg.

Hello and welcome to the site. Since you have already owned a revoler before I would get another one. You can get some nice semi auto pistol for $500 if you want a pistol that holds more ammo then 6 rounds. For a rifle there are lots of rifles you can buy that cost $500 or less. If you have any more question feel free to ask. It is nice to have another lady on the site. My wife like to shoot too. Do you know what kind of a hunting rifle are you looking at? God Bless

if you want to prepare for a riot,stick with the shotgun like runawaygun says above.If you want to get into shooting take your ex back to court and get half his guns.

best thing to do first is move out of the city. It's a matter of statistics. If there are not a lot of people around to begin with, there won;t be any 'riots' where things can get out of hand in a heartbeat. Also, it's a lot more 'gun friendly' in the country.

I'm getting misty-eyed. People actually agree with me. Great point about being out of the city. I highly doubt there will be any "Reginald Denny" incidents out here where I live. There are just too many scavengers willing to eat the corpses, so it's a good deterrent.

with runaway on the shotgun.if you are a woman of smaller stature look at a 20 guage more so than a 12 gauge.20 gauges are a lot more friendly recoil wise to smaller shooters and all the slugs and buckshot are still readily available

DONT TAKE A PISTOL TO A GUNFIGHT UNLESS IT IS A BACK UP WEAPON...
NOTHING BEATS A 12 GA SLUG HEADED DOWNRANGE.... except maybe a Barrett .50bmg/.416

Somtimes a pistol is better in a gunfight. In the case of CQC. But like you said a slug heading down range is unbeatable.

I will keep my Rem.870 with slugs, and my M1A / Rem.700 for distance.

Pistols are a secondary or even tertiary weapon. In the event an guided munition from an F16 is not available or practical, a short-barreled rifle or shotgun is a much better choice than any pistol for CQC/CQB/MOUT/UO, whatever.

Ouch that hurt!! A shotgun is really the best for home defense. Loaded up with some nice double "00" buckshot your shot will cover a nice size area, you don't have to be as accurate in a stressed situation and looking down the barrel of a shotgun will really make em piss themselfs.
