I am interested in purchasing a long range tactical/sniper rifle. I'm wanting to get into long range shooting. Unfortunatly my knowledge is very limited. I thought maybe this would be a good place to get some advice. Does anyone have any suggestions on an entry level rifle? I would like to try and keep it around $1000. What do you think about the Remington 700 SPS tactical .308 witha 2 piece picatinny style scope base, NC Star P4(SNIPER) Green Illuminated range finding Mil Dot reticle with high rise scope rings.

Go for an 1810 Kentucky Rifle, if its an authentic antique(Like SamD) then you could get almost $20,000 for it.

Why so much hate for SamD. Im new here, but I just got done reading ur little argument, kinda sounds like someone needs to grow up. Im not taking anyones side. Its just my observation.

I am not going to get into it but this is an old argument and I have stopped trying to be slick and silver tongued so now I just decide when I am bored and theres no one talking I start shitting on him. Granted it maybe be childish but it is in a separate forum and it entertains me.

The Remington 700 sps in .308 is good. What kind of scope are you planning to put on the rifle? How far do you what to shoot?

have you ever considered looking into the .270 WSM? probably the most impressive round i've fired next to the .308 M40.
