I would look at the Stag Arms for a AR-15 besides the Bushmaster. One thing to help you out is 5.56 and .223 are the same round. But, the dirrence between them is a 5.56 chamber is a little longer than .223. So, if you get to choice between the to go with the 5.56. Like I said before ammo for both will fit in a AR's magazine.
DEMO
I lost faith with the .223/556 round. Its expensive and have few uses other than defense. I want a r-25. Its a 308 which is good for deer or bear. If the shit his the fan, this will stop anybody. If you want to shoot long range good. Its a great round for all purposes.
I also like the 9mm Kel-tec 2000 for close range home defense. Its cheap ammo for plinkning and you can just keep pulling the trigger all day.

yea i would take a 308 over a 223 the 223 lacks punch even thought its a very accurate round i would rather drop em the first time with a 308

If you go with a AR-10, buy a DPMS Panther Arms in .308 LR308 is only $1,160 Retail.

Thats sweet price. I have 2 DPMS ar-15 (22LR and .223). I like thier quality.

assault rifles are not made for defense, they are made for offense... hence the name "assault". a nice AK will be easier to field strip and maintain than most other rifles. If you looking for an AR, I have a Bushmaster M4A3 and like it a lot. check out an M1A socom, or socomII... those things are BAD ASS!

Are AK's legal? if so price range and dealers would be great. If not, I have seen a few at guns shows in parking lots.
Thanks.
All I've check out appear to be great options. Thanks to the crew for info
Reaper308
yes, they're legal in most states. they run anywhere from $350 to $2,000 and more. You can get a pretty decent quality one for around $500-$600.
Death from Above
pOLY TECH IS THE AK I LIKE BUT THEY RUN 950.00-1500.00. SHOT GUN IS BEST FOR HOME DEFENSE
Reaper308
death- i agree, poly techs are good.
wideglide- did you do your homework yet? (M1A socomII)... it dumps thunder!... and you can get a mean modstock from VLTOR
