I am losing favor with the .223 round because:
1. No hunting use
2. Not a great self defense round
3. expensive as fuck
I want an AR-15 that can be used for hunting, defense and long range scope shooting. With the expensive ammo I want more. I am considering the R-25/AR-10 that can hunt, shoot long range and has some hard core power.
What do yall think?

Try to get the REC7 From Barrett, The 6.8! That is a hell of a weapon.

I like the R25 or AR10's but prefer the M1A platform if you're looking at a .308

7.62x39

i have built a few AR15's in the 7.62x39 for some customers who have used them for deer, pig, even short range coyote (messy). just like the AK but more accurate/durable platform. nice part is that you can use the same lower. with .308 you have to use the AR10 lower. nice to be able to have your 5.56 for fun or small game, then just swap your upper, slap in your 7.62 mag and go. C-Products make a nice new stainless mag.

7.62X39 sounds perfect

How does that work? How expensive is it? Where can you get a upper?

upper

my supplier is totally out because their barrels are made by Wilson, and the receiver and bolt/carrier assem. is made by Lewis Machine & Tool (both military contractors). Del-Ton offers them, also made with Wilson barrels. ammo is still not as high as most, but it has gone up a lot. 279.00/1000 rounds. here is a link to show you.
