I live in Elgin Il. and not to far from me is a shooting range called GAT Guns. The other day a man walked in showed his foid card, rented a 45. and then shot himself in the head.I don't know if you know how hard the laws are in Chicagoland about guns, But it just got worse. we have politicians calling for stricter gun laws like craZY. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO REACT. TO THIS. On one hand i feel for this troubled man's family, But on the other im really pissed that this will cause allot of problems for safe gun enthusiates like myself.any thoughts? ebear

unfortuantely, that happens quite a bit.
I know of two different cases just this year (2008) at two different ranges in the phoenix area where this has happened. I spoke with a guy that was actually on the lane next to one of the guys and watched the whole thing.
Another case where someone managed to steal a glock from a different range, then took it home and killed him self. My buddy works at that range and had to clean the gun after it was returned by law enforcement.
I believe that killing yourself is a selfish act for people that dont want to deal with the problems that the have created. All you do is pass the problems and pain onto your family member and loved ones. I had a good friend who took her own life (my best friend's wife). They had two children together. She obviously wasn't thinking of her family when she did it... I hope, because their two daughters who were 3 and 6 are the ones that found her. Another one of my friend's brothers did the same.
unfortunately situations like this at the gun range will always give responsible gun owners a bad rap just because of a stupid person commets a selfish act where a firearm is involved.

The gun-haters always respond in knee-jerk fashion. They ignore all the good stuff and try to make the country think all gun owners are psychotic. I think the ranges are comparatively safe as now all but two states have concealed carry laws. Anyone trying to close ranges now might just have a rebellion on his hands.

if they want to kill their self then why go to a gun range? there are plenty of ways to die on your own. I hear a case in FT.Worth texas that a gun range was closed for three years for six atempted suicides 2 were caught on tape and was on the news.
