Memorial Day Memories

> A picnic, when I got to shoot a .22 caliber rifle across the Delaware River, and hit some beer bottles [ and people joked about my joining the Army as a marksman, for the "War" that was sure to come].

> The next year, when all the young men seemed to have disappeared, having enlisted, or been drafted into the military.

> The war years, with no picnics, but sounding Taps for remembrance ceremonies, at the town square.

> The overflowing of joy, and the prayers of thanksgiving, after VE DAY

> The overflowing of joy, and the prayers of thanksgiving, after VJ DAY

> The active duty May 30th, Honors ceremonies as a soldier and a bugler, in uniform.

> Watching our beloved country come close to tearing itself apart, over something called Viet Nam, and US citizens allowing brave Americans to be dishonored.

> Participating in the mobilization for the Gulf War.

> AND ALAS, watching a POTUS transform the USA from a respected, admired and honored beacon of world hope, into a symbol of inconsistency, chaos, and bungling incompetency. And worse yet, watching the people of the United States suffer and permit this to happen.

But I love my country, and I will again remember and honor all those who sacrificed to insure the survival of this, the greatest country, on the face of the earth.

TO ALL OF YOU--May your memories be of the nobility of the USA..........................

Thank you, Mr. TG

I forgot one: > Burying my Recon Marine "little bro'", at Arlington National, just after Memorial Day, 2008. The Vietcong couldn't kill him during two tours, but the VA did what the Vietcong could not do.

many thanks...

To LLE; the Tall Guy and all of our fellow Guns Lot community members who served with honor to protect and defend the greatest country on this planet. I was too young for Veitnam and to old for Dessert storm. I did not think I could cut it in a peacetime army so I didn't enlist. I have regretted it in my later years.
