It is impossible to put into words what we have been through. One thing is clear, what happened exceeded our boldest dreams. The Germans ran twice from the ghetto. One of our companies held out for 40 minutes and another – for more than 6 hours. The mine set in the "brushmakers" area exploded. Several of our companies attacked the dispersing Germans. Our losses in manpower are minimal. That is also an achievement. Y. [Yechiel] fell. He fell a hero, at the machine-gun. I feel that great things are happening and what we dared do is of great, enormous importance....

Beginning from today we shall shift over to the partisan tactic. Three battle companies will move out tonight, with two tasks: reconnaissance and obtaining arms. Do you remember, short-range weapons are of no use to us. We use such weapons only rarely. What we need urgently: grenades, rifles, machine-guns and explosives.

It is impossible to describe the conditions under which the Jews of the ghetto are now living. Only a few will be able to hold out. The remainder will die sooner or later. Their fate is decided. In almost all the hiding places in which thousands are concealing themselves it is not possible to light a candle for lack of air.

With the aid of our transmitter we heard the marvelous report on our fighting by the "Shavit" radio station. The fact that we are remembered beyond the ghetto walls encourages us in our struggle. Peace go with you, my friend! Perhaps we may still meet again! The dream of my life has risen to become fact. Self-defense in the ghetto will have been a reality. Jewish armed resistance and revenge are facts. I have been a witness to the magnificent, heroic fighting of Jewish men in battle.

These people, none of whom were soldiers, held off the Germans' attempts to retake the Jewish quarter of the Ghetto in Warsaw, Poland for nearly a month. The Nazi army took only 16 days to take over Poland in the first place. This resistance was done by starving peole with a handful of weapons against German, Lithuanian, and Polish soldiers. It is a shame the jews allowed themselves to be put into this place to begin with, but the fight they put up during the uprising should be an inspiration to people everywhere. Why, with this kind of history, does there seem to be such a large number of anti-gun jews in America? Every segment of the population had their anti-gunners, but the jewish segment has a very painful reminder of what happens when you relinquish your ability to defend yourself to a government.

It is one of many "finest hour" stories that came out of WWII. It should remind us what could happen, and I consider all of us here as the new "evangelists" who must continually get the message out.

If I remember correctly, from world-wide statistics of representation, Jews represent about 0.2% of the total, with the vast majority located in Israel and the USA. You may have been correct about their conglomerate anti-gun attitude in the past, but I believe it is a little like the blind men feeling the elephant, to sense that now.

My theory is that the old stereotypes [they used to be called "clannish"] that perported to describe the value system, attitudes and behavior of that "group" of folks are long ago down the tubes. Their folk heroes range from biblical days to modern-day little Israel, out-numbered at times 20-1, kicking the stew out of the surrounding Ishmaelites. Those jews who came to Israel from Europe, in the early days of the founding of the country, never forgot what befell them and their co-religionists. They created a survivalist mnemonic device:
"Never Again", and that value system has spread throughout their worldwide population. It is forcefully visible in Israel's requirement for all physically/mentally qualified youth to serve in the military: an outstanding idea for us here in the USA. The problem for understanding their attitudes in the USA is that "they" are perceived incorrectly, as a totally homogeneous group. In reality, their individual views are as diverse as any group in America[except perhaps re religion, and attitude toward Israel, and even there, still diverse].
Underneath a secular culture of valuing academic, artistic, scientific, financial and political pursuits, I believe there is also a warrior mentality that few of us are sensitive to. They used to talk about people like Jack Benny and Al Jolson, then Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr and Edward Teller, then Hank Greenberg and Sandy Koufax and then Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin, or George Gershwin and Irving Berlin. Now they talk about people like Moshe Dayan, Hyman Rickover, Jerry Boorda, Yoni Netanyahu and other prominant jewish military heroes, as well as arguing about things like whose tactical Air Force is better--the US or Israel-- in relation to who is actually going to take out the Iranian nuclear industry. So I guess what I am saying, is I suspect they are no more or no less anti-gun than the rest of our populous. But it may appear as "more" anti-gun, because of the prominance of certain very public spokespersons. Countering that, is the ever growing membership in the Jews for The Preservation of Firearms Ownership,[JPFO} whose objectives are supported by the Old Testament: "to destroy gun control and encourage Americans to understand and defend all of the Bill of Rights, for everyone."
So, the most important words in your excellent question are, "seem to be"... I think that has been changing and is continuing to change dramatically.

NB--How to "stimulate thinking" by the anti-gunners in a group meeting[not recommended unless you are ready for a fight]:
Question: "Everyone here who believes the Second Amendment should be repealed, and all guns should be confiscated, please raise your RIGHT hand". Question: "Is it not interesting that you just gave the NAZI salute!!??" [Author, unknown].

Too old to fight, Too old to run, guess that's why I carry a gun! "would someone show this asshole the way out of town".[Rabbi Avram Belinski-aka "The Frisco Kid"]
