US Army artillery. Expert marksman (with a Howitzer), mouthed off to Patton and survived (He thought Patton was an idiot.), landed at D-Day, a gentle and gracious man, died this morning. He was 96. May God rest his soul. I'm alone this morning--had to tell someone. Thanks. Those who do not read good books have no advantage over those who cannot read them -- Mark Twain

Every veteran we lose takes an important piece of history with them. I'm sure he'll find a job upstairs commanding a battery to salute other veterans as they arrive at the gates

Sorry for your loss. He sounds like quiet a man. I'll tip one in his honor and for all of those that fought.

American hero. If I were in your location I would have been honored to sound Taps for him.
Without people like him, we would have been in severe trouble. That is why they are called "The Greatest Generation".

We are with you in your grief of a passing warrior and personal friend.

Sorry for your loss. We just buried my grandfather about a month and a half back. He died on my birthday and was a WWII medic who was also at D Day. My other grandfather who died about 8 years back was a gunner on a bomber (B-17, I think). Brave men like your father in law are the reason we're not speaking German today.

Sorry for your loss as well. We are losing much of our history everytime a vet dies.
