elgoo, you have an

'Argentine' (licensed to be MFG'd in Argentina) Mauser MFG'd in 1891.....very nice! There are most likely some sort of arsenal stampings on the barrel or furniture as well.

No way bud......Not

made in Berlin, that would be a German Mauser or K-98.... The Mauser action and design was licensed to many countries for production over the years, for instance, I own a Spanish Mauser MFG'd in 1946

have to research it tomorrow........Your gun is an 1891 so it is way pre WWII, all I can think is that maybe the Germans sent some of their German made Mausers to Argentinian arsenals to be refurbished....IDK!

My GUESS would be that it would be a rifle produced in Berlin for export in the proprietary Argentinian caliber and markings.

Does that sound reasonable to anyone else?

Mauser

True. I was just thinking about my own Mauser-- it has the Oviedo arsenal markings, but it also has Belgian proof markings on it, and somebody told me that that was because it was produced during the Spanish Civil War, used by the Spanish army, then sold to Belgium. Don't know if it's true or not, but it's a good story. Besides, who knows how many fascists and Nazis've been killed with that thing? The gun's got a good history behind it, and it's a pleasure to shoot. That's all right with me.

That's what I'd guess the history behind this weapon is like-- produced in Berlin specifically for sale. Mauser back in its time was like FN today, in the sense of weapons export.

DWM (the second line, in German) would just be a company name, whereas the first line would be the actual model of the gun.
