Nobody asked for my opinion, but I will share it with you, anyway. First, I will try to emulate Professor Gingerich, and wax academic:

When I was a young terror, before WW II, my folks took me to a Broadway stage play by two of the then playwriter experts, Kaufman& Hart. The play was titled, "The Man Who Came to Dinner". Although it was somewhat sophisticated humor, I remember laughing my ass off throughout the whole three acts. I can still remember one of the best lines I have ever heard throughout 70+ years of plays, movies, and TV viewing. I now will share this line with you.

Context: "The Man", had just slipped on the ice, broken his leg, and was told he would have to spend several weeks recuperating in the home he was visiting, when he fell. He was wheelchaired into the presence of a large group of people--including the family members/home owners. He looks, slowly around the room at this pathetic assemblage, and utters "the line", which I think is every bit applicable to last night"s debacle:

"I MAY VOMIT!"...................................

Well played LLE

I was cooking dinner at the same time the President was lying. Every once in while, I would pause and wonder, did he just plagiarize JFK?
I will paraphrase because I can not remember exactly what he said, partly because I still can not believe it and partly because I was preoccupied with chemistry.

Ask not what your corporation can do for you, but what your corporation can do for America.
He was referencing his plan to hand out tax breaks for corporations doing business in the USA, instead of relocating out side of our borders.

So he was proposing to raise the corporate taxes in the U.S.A. so we would be higher than Japan?
That is crazy, it makes absolutely no sense. Why would I go somewhere that costs my business money?

I MAY VOMIT

I neglected to describe in the "context" description of the play, that line was imbeded in the first few moments after the opening curtain All of those poor, concerned people were sitting there, waiting to see the man's "debut", after the accident, and he is wheeled out in their midst, and slowly, silently looks around at each of them, and then utters the line. It blitzed the audience.

Quote:
We should start with our tax code. Right now, companies get tax breaks for moving jobs and profits overseas. Meanwhile, companies that choose to stay in America get hit with one of the highest tax rates in the world. It makes no sense, and everyone knows it.

Quote:
So let's change it. First, if you're a business that wants to outsource jobs, you shouldn't get a tax deduction for doing it. That money should be used to cover moving expenses for companies like Master Lock that decide to bring jobs home.

Quote:
Second, no American company should be able to avoid paying its fair share of taxes by moving jobs and profits overseas. From now on, every multinational company should have to pay a basic minimum tax. And every penny should go towards lowering taxes for companies that choose to stay here and hire here.

Quote:
Third, if you're an American manufacturer, you should get a bigger tax cut. If you're a high-tech manufacturer, we should double the tax deduction you get for making products here. And if you want to relocate in a community that was hit hard when a factory left town, you should get help financing a new plant, equipment, or training for new workers.

Quote:
My message is simple. It's time to stop rewarding businesses that ship jobs overseas, and start rewarding companies that create jobs right here in America. Send me these tax reforms, and I'll sign them right away.

What in this direct quote of his speech is wrong and how?

Actually giving Companies breaks for locating in the State of Florida has been common practice for a while now as it has been in many states. Though, Corporations have been real assholes about using it up and then running for the border once they run out.

I don't know about anyone else, but I do not feel there are many US Corporations that give a shit about the American people other than as seeing them as a multi-level demographic market.

But when it comes down to it, they will just sell their products and make their money from other countries both old to world trade and up and coming to world trade.

China is now actively recruiting in the USA for Technically Skilled College Educated individuals. They have World industry by the balls starting at the bottom with no where to go but up and they are looking to get up as fast as they can. The USA has a whole lot of people that could and probably will get them there....

Of course, they go into debt for 10 - 20 years to get that education, can't find a job, all the corporations have moved overseas. Overseas is calling what choices do they have but to answer that call.

No sir, he fell into that bullet... Never argue with a stupid person. They'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience!!
