Great Prices

Wish I had a 5.56er.... Oh well. I found some great prices on Nagant ammo as well as .45 acp and .30 carbine as well as .22. All is russian ammo except the .22 which is american great for target practice. The ammo brand is Tula from russia and the .22 is Winchester.

These prices I can live with for target practice.

Why the "not for duty use"?

Probably Contract over run and not allowed for LEO or Security use.

I'll have to ask Gary about that to get the exact reason for it.

"not for duty use"

Most M855 and M193 sold to the public will have this somewhere on the ammo can or box (unless it's class 1 ammo that has been sold to LEA's then re-sold as surplus). Generally, most of the M855 you come across is class 2 and 3 ammo. Class 1 will ship to gov contracts. Class 2 will have very minor defects like chipped green paint on the tips, therefore it didn't make the cut. Class 3 has more severe defects but is usually still ok to shoot. A general rule of thumb, if it comes in boxes or strippers it is probably class 1 or 2. If it comes loose in a can, it is most likely class 3. Last time I bought 1k of class 3 M855's I had to throw out about 5 rounds out of the thousand. The defected rounds either had seating problems or fairly large dents in the cases. My suggestion, when you're dealing with surplus ammo, do a quick visual check on all the rounds before firing them. This stuff is still good for all around shooting.

oh yea

and those 420 rd cans are stupid. They have a lot of extra room in them that they stuff with foam to keep everything snug. Those cans are made for 500 rds, so why they sell 420 rds in them and not 500 rds beats the hell out of me.

It is rather dorky for them to do it that way.

http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/820-rds-556-m855-lake-city-green-t...
820 round cans of 5.56x45 Lake City M855 green tip ammo in a sealed ammo can. This is super clean looking ammo ideal for AR-15 rifles. observed headstamps were 2011 manufacture. This is great stuff that will not be around forever. The ammo cans and boxes are marked 'not for duty use' as they have not been put through performance testing required for such certification, still great ammo and a great value.QUANTITY PRICING $289.95

Sells them in two packs also...

I haven't shot any of the 5.56 but I have shot the 9 mm and that was some seriously funky ammo. There were a mixture of charges in every 50 round box. All fired but there wasn't any of it consistent in power, some eve hit like they were 1 1/2 charge.

silver bear

I've shot plenty of it. I know people report steel cases can cause problems with ejectors on AR's (also expanding differently than brass), but I haven't had any problems yet and it functions fine. I usually like to stick to brass, but I bought or 6 cases of silver bear and zinc plated barnaul. They're both alot better than the old lacquer coated brown bear and wolf. All the animals (tigers, bears, wolves) are GTG in eastern bloc rifles.
