Need some opinions

Okay here's the low down, I attend a military college in Massachusetts, so we do the formation and salute the American flag every morning. Currently we have exchange students at my school from China, no big deal, however, now at formation after we have saluted the American flag to the national anthem the band plays the Chinese National Anthem and we are made to salute their flag as well or we will be put on report. What are your thoughts?

I would say,

it is a bit weird, but I would grant them the same respect as they grant me and my country. We are all human. We all have our own beliefs and they probably have just as great of love for their country as we have for ours. Live and let live. Even if its weird and uncomfortable.

get out while u still can. WE R ON AMERICAN SOIL NOT CHINA. So eturnit3, if u think its ok to have to salute the china flag, and i mean "HAVE TO", than u r just as bad as the communists in government making ur kids pay for shit that has nothing to do with fixing this country at its current state. And if u disagree with me go look up the "stimulus" plans they passed in the last few months and tell me different.

Help

If any of you wanna help me out I would greatly appreciate it if you emailed the president of my school. His name is Richard Gurnon, his email is rgurnon@maritime.edu If any of you want to help it'd be great if you'd send him an email telling him that it is a disgrace, there's no need to tell him who you are or who I am or anything, just if you feel as strongly as I do about this, help me out and send him an email. Thanks

I would:

If they salute our flag, we salute thiers it only just, as long as the respect is equal. no one is asking you to believe. but you are representing us as a nation not as an individual. but thats the beauty of America.

I think a call to the US Mil Academy West Point and /or a call to the
US State Department might reconcile your anxt. Also, I can remember rendering a hand salute to the German Flag during various ceremonies when I was attached to them for training.

One important fact that ssrs10 left out of his original post is that students who refuse to salute the chinese flag are being put on "report", the academy's term for punishment. The typical outcome is recieving what we call a class 2 tap sheet. Where you have to go in front of a board and they sentence you to 3 to 14 days of "restriction" and award you 30 to 75 hours of extra duty. Restriction being a form of hell on earth, you are forced to sign in every hour from 6am to 12pm in full dress uniform and weekends are included untill your days are done. The academy has taken the stance that to not salute the chinese flag is a slap in the face to the 10 exchange students attending the school. Now personally I refuse to salute any symbol of communism and for that matter anything that represents a country that represses and kills it's own people. I don't spit when they raise the flag and play the anthem but I will NOT salute their flag. I don't expect the exchange students to be forced to salute our flag as well. I believe standing at attention and offering a moment of silence is all that should be required.

We had to salute the Panamanian flag after the American flag. Scoob, servicemembers, including cadets, do things we don't like sometimes. We don't have to agree with it, we just have to do it. Fuck you for comparing a cadet to a communist government. We lose some of our freedoms in the service of our nation, so go suck a dick.

What the fuck. I can remember standing at attention for jordanian, Kuwait and other shithole countries. But we were on their soil. Runaway's right though, you will have to do many shitty things in uniform.....
