New to everything

'ello, Folks. I'm new here, a retired librarian who wants to move up from a can of mace. Also computer geek has-been. I'm about to purchase my first handgun, take some courses, get a PTC, etc. and am looking forward to exploring all the information on this site. I figure the 2nd amendment is going to be under some stress with the new administration, so I'm motivated to get a stash before that happens and also work to see that it doesn't. I'm probably the only conservative librarian you'll ever meet. I'm interested in anything weird, from UFOs to the nature of reality. Now, I'm way too old to be a private, so I guess I better get busy. Thanks.

Greetings Schuyler,
I am pretty sure you are not real, I mean a conservative librarian, come on man, think of a better lie than that...

just kidding, we here on this board are a disfunctional family at best. Ask away, there is much knowledge to be shared.

Hello Schuyler

Your are at the right place then. We have a lot of weird people here. But I think weird is a good thing to be. Keeps everybody else guessing about you. What ever you need to know just ask we have someone here that should know the answer or we can look it up. Welcome to Gunslot.

Hey Schuyler

I know what you mean. They all think I am a conservative, when really I am an ACLU Lawyer, taking names and addresses. But don't tell anyone else. OK? Our secret.

Go to NRA.ORG and click on 'What Happens next' at the bottom center of the page. Also there is an article here: http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=4227 on Obama's gun ban plans. If that's not enough, take a look here: http://www.examiner.com/r-3671313~President_elect_Obama_s_Employment_App... which details Obama's employment application for anyone wanting a job with the new administration. This last has been reported several places, I just chose one at random. They look to be the same story.

Umm, from my Dad?

Since we are patrilneal in our naming conventions, I got it from my father. The original guy, ggggrandfather, came over from Prussia in 1800. He was the son of a wealthy shipowner who was educated at Heidelberg and Oxford. He was a Lutheran minister and jumped ship. His offspring, however, were largely illiterate. Some of them called themselves 'Sheeler' while others adopted the spelling you see, which is actually Dutch and pronounced 'Skyler.' Some of my idiot cousins, because they are hicks, pronounce it 'Schuler,' which I loathe. As it turns out, we are both wrong. The interesting thing is that it took my family five generations to make it back up the ladder. That was something people were originally willing to do. I'm not sure we see much of that now.

In any case, probably too much information. Sorry. :-)
