New guy from England!

Hey guys!
I'm Dan from England and will be moving stateside very soon once my spouse visa comes through.

Over here in England the only gun culture is in the gangs.
(Even the British olympic team are not allowed to bring their guns inside Britain!!)

So seeing as I will be in the US, I will be entering into the culture of "the gun".

Primarily I want to be able to protect my family, but of course knowing very little about guns I want to fully respect the weapon by going through training, how to look after the gun etc etc

Eventually I would love to hunting but I think I'm going to wait until I have made friends with people who know what they are doing!

We'll be in Pensacola Florida to start with, not exactly hunting hotspot, but as I said I would like to enroll on a training course specifically for a handgun.

Any advice/tips?
Thanks

welcome to the site!! glad to have another future gun junkie. you're on the right track. I definatley recommend some sort of trainging if you've never been around guns, to get proper shooting techniques. It is easier to learn to shoot right the first time, than to un-learn bad habits and learn to shoot correctly. I would recommend checking out a variety of handguns for defense, and shooting them at a local range (once you get to Florida) before making your decision. Just go with a good name brand. A shot gun isn't bad for home defense either. you will see, after your first purchase, guns are just like any other addiction.

Welcome to Gunslot.com and soon to the U.S.
Florida is a very gun friendly state. They recip with most of the recip states in the US on their Concealed Carry Permits. Florida is actually good for hunting. But leave the Pink Plastic Flamingos alone in the trailer parks, those senior citizens get real testy.
You can never go wrong with a Glock19 for carry weapon. It is chambered in 9mm, relatively inexpensive to shoot, no external safeties to fumble with. They are really accurate and Very Safe. You can't make one go off unless you actually pull it's 2 stage trigger. Do some reading. I carry the Glock19 and love it! I am in Arizona and have 2 dtrs living in Florida!

Those darn state by state laws sure make it different when your traveling!

Will be doing a lot of practice at shooting ranges.

Is there a site where I can find out a bit more info re training courses?

I'm going on vacation to Florida in March for 3 weeks, so I'm looking at maybe getting a little experience, not sure if I will be allowed though without US I.D.

All I can find online is the Pensacola Pistol and Rifle Club, which is an outdoor range. I don't know if they offer training. They don't have the best website.

When traveling, if you don't have a concealed carry license, just keep the gun unloaded in the vehicle and you won't have a problem. There are laws that are ridiculous, but if you use common sense and don't have any other issues, most law enforcement in that part of the country will work with you. The same does not hold true for the People's Republics of California, Massachusetts, New york City, or Chicago are different stories.

Florida is a whole lot flatter and a whole lot hotter than England, so be prepared. the days are different, too, without long summer days or long winter nights. I really like Great Britain; it's beautiful, truly. Oh, and there's this thing about which side of the road and all that? Whew! I kissed the ground when I got back to Heathrow!

OK. Who recognizes the movie quote? Who said it to whom when?
