Welcome to Guns Lot Ton.
A hand gun for personal defense depends a bit on your needs. Are you looking for a smaller frame gun or something a bit larger? This somewhat depends on the size of your hands. Are you looking for something that has a lot of stopping power or more something that allows you to be more accurate?
Most the people I know stand by Glocks as they are very durable and reliable, although there are some other new hand guns on the market that are very nice as well.
Hope that helps you a little bit.
Glock 21C Shooter
There's a great article on the homepage about which gun to use for home and personal defense. You should check it out.
