Hello all, I am a newcomer to his site and have just recently spent some time at the firing range near me. I am hooked . Would like to ask fellow enthusiasts their opinion as to what make /model of a 9mm that they might recommend as a first handgun. Pros and or cons of different brands. Appreciate any and all input...Thanks in advance |

to avoid re-typing the same thing... go back and check out previous posts on this topic. I suggest go with a good name brand built on reliability (glock,XD,S&W M&P,sig,HK,CZ,whatever)and what feels the best in your hands

Unlike reaper, I don't mind re-typing, because I love to hear myself talk and the same holds true for seeing my words on the internet, no matter how ridiculous they may seem. Congratulations on becoming a member of this forum, it's a cool place. Now for the guns. I am a die-hard Glock fanatic. Anything Glock is great (okay, except their knives and entrenching tools. Those are just dumb). The G19 is, in my opinion, the best all around handgun in the world. The pros of the Glock are reliability, accuracy, capacity, price, and simplicity of operation and maintenance. The only cons I have found are terrible factory sights, and a tendency to abrade or even cut the firing hand if you have large hands or use a very high grip. My second choice behind the Glock would be the Springfield Armory XD series. My wife has the XD subcompact 9mm and it is a dream to shoot. The pros of the XD are the same as the Glock. The cons, are the grip safety (a useless feature) and the pistol height. The XD subcompact is the same height as the G19, which is Glock's mid-size 9mm. After these two, there are really no other guns I specifically recommend, as everything you could need is found in these two. Any gun made by the major manufacturers will be reliable and accurate enough to trust as defensive guns. There will be those in here who will say go to a range with gun rentals and try different guns to find the right one for you. That is good advice, but not much fun. There's mine.

Thise HiPoint 9mm are under $250 I will always support Springfield XD 9mm just because I own a .40 CAL and know from hands on experience that Springfield that their firearms are true and reliable. I have fired a S&W 9mm, was not impressed at all un my opinion a POS handgun, jammed a bunch and was innacurate. Glock of course is good, beretta good, Kimber very good, and some Rock Islands are good.
Reaper308
did you just recommend a Hi Point to our valued unknowing new member?
traumatriage1911
I know it's bad huh? It's terrible, God forgive me for reccomending the hipoint to the new guy, I know that they are a plastic like handgun, better to give em a Nerf Dart gun.
Reaper308
upon your next violation LLE shall send you to the closet
traumatriage1911
Forget what I said about the hipoint, I dont want to be responsible for a handgun that blows up in yer hand because it's held together with Chinese noodles and monkey spit.
Reaper308
monkey "spit" huh... never heard that one before

Gives me time to talk to the voices in my head

And that soap stuff that they use to make tires slip onto rims, thats Gorilla Snot

i like the 92, however i seem to be the only one. that's o.k. i am used to going it alone.

Welcome, I am new to and watch out there are some fruit loops here.
I like the glock 9mm or an XD for the money, If money is no issue look at the Kimber. Those guns are just dead sexy
runawaygun762
The problem with them is quality control. There are some examples that are very reliable and accurate enough, and some that would fall apart before you could beat someone to death with it.

contrary to what some say DO NOT BUY A HIPOINT!
