NFA weapon question...

Not sure if this should be here or off topic, so if it needs moved, feel free moderators. Here goes.... I was talking with a local gun store owner, who is also a 07/02, and the topic of Gatling guns came up. Now we can all agree that they are legal and not considered a " machine gun", however me being the mechanically inclined person that I am, I mentioned that it would be to easy to mount a motor and a bendix clutch on it making it VERY fun. The gunstore owner promptly informed me that it would also be illegal. I can accept this, it was a purely hypothetical conversation anyways ( I don't even own a Gatling gun), but I want to know why? He couldn't tell me why a crank fired weapon is legal, but as soon as it has a motor it isn't. Any pearls of wisdom here?

A hand crank is limited to a certain number of rounds it can fire, no different than a semi auto rapid fire on the trigger. With a motor you can increase the amount of fire power up to 3000/5000 rounds a minute.

To me it would seem more like a bump-fire mechanism. Are you pretty sure about your reply, or do you know it for a fact? I'm just curious, like I said it isn't one of my projects, I just hate being told no. Lol!

Never mind nitris..

Your pretty much dead on. Because the hand cranking limits the rate of fire, and in a mini-gun 1 pull of the trigger is all that's needed.
