the nikon m-223 scope

I saw an article in an AR-15 mag today at publix and it was raving about this scope(m223), they are built and designed for AR's which brings me in even more to this, I love nikon products, great quality. I havent been able to hold one or see one in person, has anyone had a run in with these bad boys. Im looking at the M-223 1-4x20 at $299 which is a do-able price for me. Anyone know of anything of similar or better value for around the same price...Ill need a riser mount as well because my front site is not removable, atleast easily removable.

looks good. But I think I'd go up to the 32mm OL at least. 20mm is kind of small. I don't think it would do well in the low light conditions I'd be using it in. WHEN I get my AR.

that is the one I would go with if I wasn't wanting to reach out further.

dam. that like 900+ yards out. I cant really see actually shooting out that far. I mean getting the single upgrade to 600yrds I find it hard to use, Ive never shot with a scope that good, but I can assume that shooting at 100 or lesser that it would suck, Idk, thats why im asking, lol. I could get the second from bottom, the price difference isnt too much for me. But at 600yrds, what am I really shooting at..your not gonna hunt at 600yds. nobody hunts that far. So what do you dat when you have a scope that zeros at 600 and you have a shot at maybe 100yds...just accommodate? I doubt in FL I cant take a shot at a deer at +100yds. So I figure the bottom line m223 scope will do for me......BUT please school me in scopes, as I HAVE NONE!!!!!! I want to learn as much as posible.

I shoot on a 1000 yard ready range and there are berms at 100,200,300,500,600,800 and 1000.

The scope will pull double duty on a SR556 Piston Ruger and a Sig 556 DMR with a 24 inch barrel on it for longer distances.

The 1-4x20 should be fine for you for hunting bipedal or beasts of the 4 legger kind.

It all depends on what type of shooting you plan on doing.

I'll look into an Aimpoint CompM4 with Magnifier or a Eotech 557 N/V and Magnifier for the Ruger later on.

I have the 308 Savage also but that has a 6x24x44 on it if I want to go with a Bolt.

If your not wanting to reach out that far the x20 is more than enough.

long range

get set up for it and 600 meters is just plain old fun, you'd be surprised BFT.I wish i could shoot more but the 1000 yd range is 100 miles away.I understand not shooting a deer at 600 meters but if yougo out west,600 is doable.Prarie dogs in SD come to mind,22-250,.223,220 swift if i remember right is what my brother in law shoots out there.

It isn't necessarily the distance and magnification as it is the light gathering. The 20mm only takes in so much light, so when you are hunting in the dusk and dawn (which is prime time) it can be harder to see.
