The Korea Times is reporting that while it has will allow 86,000 historical M1 Garand rifles to be imported from South Korea, the Obama administration continues to block the importation of some 600,000 M1 Carbines because “they come with a magazine that can carry multiple rounds.”

Washington has agreed to allow the importation of M1 Garand rifles from Seoul, reversing its earlier decision to ban the shipping of the weapon used by South Korean and U.S. soldiers during the 1950-53 Korean War, a senior defense official said Wednesday.

“The U.S. government approved the imports of some 86,000 of the rifles,” said Lee Sun-chul, deputy defense minister for force and resources management.

“The historic firearms are expected to be sold to American Korean War veterans and their families in time for the 62nd anniversary of the Korean War, which falls on June 25 this year.”

Kim Mi-sung, an official of the force and resources management office, said the defense ministry received an approval letter from the United States on Sept. 2 last year that stated Washington agreed to allow the importation of the M1s.

She noted that the U.S. government, however, rejected Seoul’s proposal to export some 600,000 M1 Carbines, which were also used in the Korean War, as they come with a magazine that can carry multiple rounds unlike the Garands.

showing how many M1 Carbines have been found at crime scenes? I'd betcha there have been more Toyotas linked to violent crimes than the Carbine.

Yeah DC, somehow

I just don't see the M1 Carbine as being the 'gang bangers' weapon of choice....

as a QCB weapon it actually works very well. But, I doubt that Homie has one stuffed in his baggies just waiting to bust a cap.

Then again, that might be a good thing if they did. Then they would probably be more likely to hit who they intended and would shortly kill themselves off!

here's the quote; "come with a magazine that can carry multiple rounds unlike the Garands".

I've had both, shoot both, and as you guys know recently sold one of these, my brothers Garand.. The absurdity of this is that if you wanted to do serious damage the one any of us would pick up is the Garand.. Gary also left me a bandolero loaded with Garand striper clips. anyone who has ever used one knows that when the old clip is ejected a new one is inserted and fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. Every other pocket of the bandolero was black point ap rounds.. These were of course 30.06 thats the real deal guys.. Not the anemic 30 carbine. I know im preaching to the choir here, but when you can't even get your facts right it's disgusting..

Anyone familiar with the weapons systems would prefer to face the carbine (know it was used front line Korea, and early VN, but designed as a rear echelon defensive piece to replace the 1911) as apposed to the long range offensive Garand..

issue, it's political power and the money it brings in. We're just fly specks in the pepper to the politicians who make the laws that hammer us into the ground. Why should they care, we don't represent enough money to them, we're not their voters anyway. Whether it's morally proper does not matter, whether it's constitutionally correct does not matter. What matters is their re-election and amassing a fortune.
Is that the government we had at the beginning of the war between the states? Hell No !
The beginning of the end of our form of government was in Philidelphia when the Declaration of Independence was signed. The freedoms we had were the virus that will eventually destroy this country.
Can the problem be voted away? Again, Hell No, we don't stand a chance against the people in power who use OUR tax dollars to buy votes and public opinion.
We can get a just and fair president, we have before but he'll be crucified by the power brokers. Our government will have to be remade, the same constitution would work but the power structure in place now would have to be disassembled.
Oh shiite, I don't want to sound like some two bit revolutionary...but I do. Sorry guys.

remaking the country is part of their ultimate goal, at least I am starting to think this more and more. Their Ultimate goal *is* a New World Order which will not include the 3rd World Nations because those can be left alone until they kill themselves off enough that they can make the choice of assimilating them, or just taking everything they want....

Empire Earth.... not such a goofy SiFi book Title anymore

There are some things that are just soooo stupid.. This is simply to appease their party base.. My guess is the administration and "state" really don't care that much.. They sure don't care how we feel about it, being aware that the odds of any of "us" voting democratic is slim to none..

I'm going to go way out on a limb here..(taking my saw with me lol) If O stepped up and showed leadership..ie.. STOPED the health care debacle, Started the pipeline, Enforced the border, worked with the Republicans in the House, Addressed the Nation and said.. "As the President of this country responsible for leading it. The following starts NOW.. America elected me, a black man.. The days of blaming racism for problems in the black community are over.. It's time we a took responsibility, time we stoped fathering out of wedlock children, time we stoped committing the crimes that lead to disportionate numbers in prison, and time we joined other minorities who have become successful despite what prejudice they faced.. No other American will lose his life in Afghanistan.. it's just not worth it.. and if you don't like what im doing vote me out.. "IF" he did that i and im guessing half this group would vote for the man.. As Daisy said it doesn't look like were going to see a viable Republican candidate.. Ok... i hear gasps out there.. it's ok boys.. He wont and i wont.. but it sure would be good to hear..

The lovely mrs E is ready to head north.. Prescott for essentials.. Hope the lungs are functioning at 90% or better.. Try my best to lose the "senility issues" while gone...later my friends..

Question

My big question about this is this:

This isn't an imported, foreign made weapon, this is an American made, American surplus piece of military equipment. These are guns that should've been brought home decades ago. So why would we need any permission from anyone to bring back American gear to America? Even if they sell the damn things for $1 each it's still better than letting OUR equipment sit in South Korea and make us nothing in a time when we desperately need every cent we can get our hands on as a nation.

As my former Captain used to say "If sense was common, everyone would have it." Though I've come to prefer "Common sense: so rare it's like a damn super power."
