Ok this guy said its not a 1911 because of the magazine...?
Hey yall, its been a while. My buddy needs a replacement magazine for his Kimber poly custom. I consider it a 1911 and he does aswell, its a 45 and looks like the colts/browning models. You know the good ole gun. But it has a 14round mag, and the gun shop guy said it wasnt a 1911 because of the high mag capacity. I call BS on that and firmly believe that they dont know shit about guns. What says the plethera of knowledge from GS. While technically the guy is correct, the term 1911 has been used to describe all pistols based on the Browning design. Example: Xerox made the first copy machine, people used to to say they were going to xerox something instead of copy it. Google.com has become synonymous with internet search. It is not the only internet search, but that has become lexicon. 1911 is the same way.
A kimber is not a Colt 1911, but it is considered a 1911 by most.

Did I explain myself better on those 911 posts. I was not downing your whole post, and I talked to my teacher friend, and just 1 grde and year difference in sge those kids wrote a completely different theory, it still affected their dreams, but at 7 years old did not know fully what it meant when it happened. Tired of talking about it though, you agree. Thanks for always respecting my opinion like I do yours and did not show it properly John

with a double stack mag well...
Para double stack 14 round mags should fit in it.
All that was done was the widened the Grip at the frame....
The guy at the shop is ignorant and probably should hang out here quietly soaking it up...
lol

does STI make their own mags, or do they use someone else's. If they make their own, I would look at them. Is his pistol a 2011?

I agree with you, based on the fact my close cousin is the chief of police in a town in Jersey and that is all they shoot on duty and off, He was a rangemaster for state police and while there collected a bunch of different Mags from different co, and guns. He sent me a bunch and I offered them to randy for trade or fit what he has. Randy did not say no, but it doesan' seem to interesting to him, but untill he declines in or on this site , I cannot offer them to anybody else. I do not know if there is a kimber in there or not. If Randy does not want them and says so, I will microscope them for specs and see if one will fit what you want. My cous, says they all went with the ruger lcp as a backup piece on and off the force. Yes they are swat too. He started at 18 and now is the youngest chief of police ever. He started as a state Trooper for Jersey and then swat, range master teaching new guys , got tired of that and went into a small town by the casinos and modernized the whole area with his expertise. I could not be prouder to have him as a cousin. JLC Ps- they are happy with those guns and deal with Gangs and Mafia all the time. If someone does not like those guns, that is fine with me, as I have learnd to say on this site, otherwise I am attacked by at least someone.

So this is what we found out from Kimber....we called them...the slide and all its pieces are a 1911, but the bottom half...aka the plastic parts are not. so yes it is a 1911 and not its not a 1911. tech both parties are correct. a true 1911 has an 8 round mag. and I think there are some differences in the lower of this kimber than the true 1911 lower. thank you all tho.

Yes. As mentioned above. The only real 1911s are colts. It is simply a model number that colt assigned this particular design as it was introduced in that form in 1911. Like the 1911A1 and so forth. Same as there are not AR 15s unless they are colts. As well as single action army pistols. The pistols built on the colts format are clones or 1911 type pistols. It is not being a gun snob, it is simply the way it is. I have several clones and colts. I am carrying a 1911A1 clone right now.
