Once upon a time, there was a great comedian named Groucho Marx. Some people loved him and some did not think he was all that funny. Most of you probably never heard of him, because y'all are so damned young!! One of Groucho's great quotes went something like this: "I would never become a member of any organization that would have me as a member".

After the last presidential election, I felt just like Groucho in reverse, with respect to my being a member of the electorate of the USA. I still feel ashamed of having anything to do with having been a part of the electorate that gave us Obama.

No one could have said it better, however, than the unknown author of the quote, that follows:

"The danger to America is not barrack Obama, but [is]a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency, than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barrack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

We used to be a savvy, sharpe, intelligent people.........What, in the name of God, has happened to us!?

Excellent post. I think that a major factor is that we now have the "gimme" generation (whatever letter of the alphabet is used). We also have the generation that doesn't want to take the time to educate or inform themselves. We're too intellectually lazy. Gimme, gimme, gimme. Both Democrats and Republicans have clustered into an "us vs. them" stance, to the point where anyone seeking to work with those in the other party in order to find a consensus position and try to move the country forward is castigated as a traitor and treated as a leper. Political campaigns have become completely polarized shouting matches.
I wish I could see things changing and returning to a more reasonable time, with more respect for the views of others, but I'm not hopeful that this will happen any time soon.

and correct in all regards.. This also marks the first weekend of Obarrys appointments of (i believe its 17) a large slice of administrators to positions that are normally confirmed by congress.. Doing this during the congressional recess allows him to do this with out thier confirmation by congress, and some of them had already been singled out for a lot of heat.. they also stay under the radar and out of the attention of the media using this ploy.. Its the big story to look for Monday morning..

Does anyone have a list of these "recess appointees"? I'm especially concerned about judicial appointees.

Haven't seen a list in print, but guessing dodge report has it up.. I believe there's a total (as stated) of 17.. Of them two are really issues, one of them. The one for commerce i believe, had tongues waging a couple of weeks ago.. straight up communist party "ex" member.. Sure you get Matt..and sure he has a list up. I thought about checking the site to keep from guessing at the numbers but chose to be my normal lazy, (but fairly accurate) self..

with my generation, I can't believe some of the views and attitudes of the 30 and 40 somethings. I stopped associating with most of my peers around my neighborhood as I could only stand about 10 minutes of their bullshit before I was ready to puke.

The schools are a big influence on kid's attitudes today, I don't know exactly what they are teaching but this "it is right if it feels good" bullshit has got to go.

And I won't get started on the modern parent's inability to discipline the little bastards when they need it for fear of ending up in family court. If I treated adults when I was a kid like some of these little rodents do today, I would be breathing through my asshole.

But on this one I'm thinking its more my generation of baby boomers that did the "big turn" .. Were the ones that introduced liberalism to America.. Were the ones who traded common since for Dr. Spock, and Were the ones who first got the nation REALLY into drugs.. All we did was fail to discipline your generation and what ever the results are are showing.. That being said i will tell you that (and this is as a Vietnam Vet) i think the kids who are in country right now, and doing so for thier third and fourth tour are three times what my generation is..and that my friend is a fact.. Some of the guys in my era had it rough.. We usta figure a 1 in 10 the old REMF thing.. But those in theater now are ALL at high risk constantly.. So i really do think thier more like the WWII generation than we were..

Enter: Runawaygun!!

My boy is two years old and already gets spanked if he needs it. Two year olds aren't capable of retaining information for very long, so I don't expect him to remember that I told him to keep his feet off the dinner table yesterday, but he is expected to obey mommy and daddy if we tell him to get his feet down today. We eat dinner at the table as a family with no television, and we ask him what he did at daycare and ask questions that can't be answered with a simple yes or no.

Of course, he's two, so we don't expect coherent, reasoned responses, but we are establishing a family custom of eating together as a family after the school and work day. We occassionally have little pizza parties around his kiddie table in the living room with a movie on. I am a firm believer that TV trays and microwave dinners played a huge part in the downfall of the American family. Hah hah. The nuclear family destroyed by microwaves.

While I have no intentions of being a tyrant in my house, I will occassionally peek into my son's classroom during the day, I will demand answers to pointed questions during parent teacher conference, I will be a very active member of the PTA, and I will follow my son when he leaves the house every once in a while to make sure he goes where he says he's going

I know this thread didn't start out being a family-type discussion, but in my mind, reestablishing strong family bonds and instilling good values of patriotism, discipline, a solid work ethic, responsibility for one's own action, welfare, and future in your children while also showing unconditional love is the ultimate grass roots movement and will go a long way toward bringing our nation back to where we all know it should be.

Oh, and remember; DAVID MARLOW FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

Damn it, I had a good, well-reasoned dissertation and had to go and fag it up by exposing my own political agenda, didn't I?

The whole "INTER RUNS!" deal made us hitch up the seat belt before reading, but as usual you knocked it out of the ball park.. Your an enigma brother.. Really REALLY fucked up but so fucking cool it somehow all works.. And of course dead solid right on your post.. By the way the vid of you and Mrs letting the boy but a round down range was so great.. The pride in your face and the excitement in the wife's voice tells us the boys going to be a winner.. And if not you'll just bury him in the back yard, and read over him on alternate holidays..

when I tell Matthew if he turns out to be a shitbag, then I'll just kill him and have another one. She also doesn't agree with my hopes that he turns out gay. I figure, if I have a gay son, I can raise him and do all the fun father/son stuff, plus I get to scare away the boyfriends when he's a teenager, which is the only reason to want a daughter. Best of both worlds, and I only have to pay to raise one. Now that's being fiscally conservative. Another reason to vote for me.

you're right. Kids need disipline, but the libs can't tell the difference between abuse and disipline. Kids need boundries and rules and if they break them they need punishment, like our society ought to be doing. this country has turned into a you owe me mentality instead of I deserve it because I worked for it attidude. i bought a new truck yesterday, I work hard, long hours and so does my wife. My useless brother and sister in law who live off the state and SSI give me the must be nice additude, well get a job and fucking earn it you slugs it just pisses me off that this is the additude(new word I learned today so trying to use it alot) of this country.

concerning raising children.not the gay part though because I have 2 daughters so there be lots of oppertunity to scare boys with intent on disrobing my daughters.I will probably get tired of it...who knows?anyway, great post LLE!

by rodney atkins when they come over

The song is "Cleanin' This Gun" by Rodney Atkins here are the lyrics:

The Declaration of Independence
Think I could tell you that first sentence
But then I’m lost

I can't begin to count the theories
I've had pounded in my head
That I forgot

I don't remember all that Spanish
Or the Gettysburg address
But there is one speech from high school
I'll never forget

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Ain’t it son?
Hey y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I’ll be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Well now that I’m a father
I’m scared to death one day my daughter
Is gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
That seems to have just one thing on his mind

She’s growin' up so fast
It won't be long before
I’ll have to put the fear of god into
Some kid at the door

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all go out and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Now it's all for show
Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt
It’s just a daddy thing
And hey, believe me, it works

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all run along and have a little fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty.
Drive safe.

It reminded me of one of my sisters who used to brag that the state of Missouri paid for her cable bill. I wanted to choke slam her through her fuckin TV. She's married now to a fat hillbilly, but from what I hear, he has an honest job, so there's nothing bad I can say about that.

I'll be the first to admit that my job right now is a cush job, and I make damned good money for sitting in front of a computer 8 hours a day, 12-15 days a month. And I'm about the last guy who will ever ask for, or accept, sympathy or respect for the job I do. I could honestly care less whether people approve of my career choice or not, as I don't do this for public recognition. I do admit that I do not work very hard for my pay right now, but with past experiences including 8 months a year in the field for five years as an infantry soldier, 25 mile ruckmarches, twisted ankles, falling 34 feet from the top of a rope, burns, cuts, losing 14 pounds in three days, humping a rucksack that literally outweighed me by 6 pounds up and down the hills in Panama during monsoon season, and several live-fire tests of my manhood called Operation Iraqi Freedom, I don't feel bad at all spending my money on things some may consider luxuries while driving by homeless people begging for handouts.

i'm doing something right. Nobody ever handed me a thing, this fat lazy bitch never moved out of mom and dads till she got married (at the young age of 43) has never gotten her drivers License. Even though you're in a cush job right now you pay for everything through the service to the country. I did my time in RA. Yes we had slack times but then we had times of being up for 4 or 5 days straight, living in foxholes and eating some crap in a packet once a day if we were lucky. Service members earn what they get. But shit heads who never did a damn thing in there life do not deserve anything. You want some thing from the tax payers welllllllllll there are alot of roads that need cleaning and patching, citys needing to be cleaned up. If you want that check earn it the time for hand outs needs to end NOW!

at least 200 years. When you have a govmnt that can dole out favors it will.
More recently of course is F.D. Roosevelt with nearly as many commies in his administration as Joe Stalin did.
Now, as for guys named Joe, how about "Tail Gunner Joe" McCarthy, the senator that wanted to rid the government of all of F.D.R's commies? He went after the slime that wanted to hand over every secret we had to the U.S.S.R.
What did he get for doing his sworn duty? He got trashed by the left wing media and the Hollyweird crowd, now people think McCarthy was some kind of a nut but he was a true patriot doing his best to protect his country.
Our country is just taking the natural course that started at the beginning of this nation, down hill.
It would take a real revolution to get it back to the starting point.

Since a majority of the population gets at least something from the gov in the way of a handout voting the bums out won't work. As I said above, "When you have a govmnt that can dole out favors it will."
Handing out the goodies makes sure they'll keep getting voted into office.
I'll be voting conservative, as always, in November but will it change anything in the long run? No, just look what happens to conservatives in elective office who try to do the right thing, they get slimed.

and try to please everyone. Stick to your guns and admit your shortcomings, be prepared for confrontation with retards like Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, and Michael Moore, and people will love you. I mean seriously, how many times have we thought that the Republican party has lost its balls and just wish someone would step up and be willing to take the shots without backing down?

Something I have learned in the army is that it is very, very easy to come up with great ideas and criticize your leaders when you don't have to take responsibility for a bad decision. These fucking Republicans who shout at Obama and try to make the administration look bad are acting like little fucking girls. Someone needs to be a man and take the reins. Right now, I'm willing to bet if someone deliberately exposed himself to the left's mud slinging machine and didn't apologize for anything, that guy would be the new face of the conservatives

keeps holding the dems feet to the fire in this state and he has been talked about as a possible candidate, when the dems couldn't/wouldn't balance the state budget he stepped in and did it by cutting lots of welfare programs, state health care(free again for bums),and educational pork programs. It's been a battle and one that the dems in this state are going to remember, they are currently taking him to court(yep on the taxpayers dime) to say he overstepped his authority and they want all the cuts reinstated.
