Im lookin for a good optic, be it a red-dot type or ACOG....along the lines of cheap...like below $200 and 200 is pushing it hard. lol. Its really just for all-around use, shooting targets, maybe hunting, and personal defense...might even end up using this AR as my patrol rifle. Hints, tips, suggestions PLEASE!!! I know youll do me good, although its been really quiet lately. With love- FORD

Optics,

The Vortex Strikefire was recommended to me while I was looking for a relatively cheap and reliable red dot. All of the reviews that I have read for it said that it is a very stable and reliable red dot with one flaw. The NV mode is really easy to turn on while moving. There was also one or two that stated that it didn't quite get bright enough, but I don't know how accurate that is.

Other than that, Its pretty stable. Has multiple brightness options including NV mode. Can switch between a red and a green dot and can easily be co-witnessed. Its also quite cheap. If you look on other sites (other than the Vortex link that I'll include at the end of this), You can find them for $149 or maybe less. From the Vortex sight they're only $179. Its a large chunk of money but when you look at how much other red dots along the same lines of quality run for, its a really good deal. In my opinion that is.

Heres the link that I mentioned earlier:

I have a couple

Red dots,a Simmons and a Tasco, both 30mm, both were under a hundred dollars. Both work fine but although they are adjustable for brightness i use them on the highest setting so i can pick up the dot fast. The Tasco is on a 12 gauge shotgun and the simmons is on my 10/22.When you mount them make sure and use locktite, other wise they will shake loose.I had a nice aimpoint RD on my Ported Dan Wesson 44mag that shook itself loose during competition and ended my day early.Spend some time sighting it in and you'll have fun with it.good luck.

red dots

I don't have any experience with any of the cheaper dots. I am curious about some of them as well. I was looking into the sig (iTAC) or any of the other T1 knock-offs to put on an AK, but I've read that like many of the other comparable dots, they don't hold a zero too well. I may end up just buying a H1, but would rather go the cheaper route if possible while still getting decent quality.

BTW, I have read about people having good luck with that strikefire
