For the past few months I have been helping out my ex-wife with her ailing mother by making frequent trips to their home in California to lend a hand with things. During this time I cant help but notice a large number of families that are receiving financial aid. I see them all the time, on the average there will be a young woman in her early 20s with 2 or 3 young children and pregnant. Sometimes they either cannot or just refuse to speak English. I will see them in line at the grocery store trying to sneak alcohol or other items in with their groceries to purchase with food vouchers. Then they act like they dont understand. They play dumb, sometimes they even argue with the poor clerk while the line backs up and people with jobs and places to be wait annoyed and grow impatient. I know some of you may think Im exaggerating this but honestly I wish I were. Fact is its painfully obvious here. So I am wondering why is it that we have a welfare system that rewards these lazy people who in many cases are not even American Citizens? If we really wanted to make some progress in the right direction we should begin with areas like this where people are blatantly ripping off a system that was put in place to temporarily help out taxpaying citizens who are down on their luck to get back on their feet. How about this for a start. When a young lady shows up pregnant and broke, we let her get the help she needs for that 1st time. If she gets pregnant again, then that is her problem. No help for #2. If we did that simple change alone I guarantee they would figure out how to use birth control QUICK. Or here is a slightly more radical approach. If they expect us to foot the bill for their carelessness before we hand them a single check they submit to sterilization. No sterilization, no money. Really, why should we be paying for these people to have 4 or 5 or more kids when they have no desire whatsoever to find work (with the exception of what they make working off the books and not paying taxes on)or practice birth control? And then when their daughters turn 14 or 15 they start having children as well. Its ridiculous. I have been paying taxes all my life and it just makes me sick to see these people bastardize a system that should be a blessing to our nation instead of a curse. I am just wondering if anyone else sees it this way or if I am just thinking too extreme.

Since early this year when I found out thru MRI and X Rays that I have 2 severely degenerated discs and 2 bulged discs above that in my back I worked until early September. As a heavy equipment mechanic,I work on big heavy equipment with heavy parts.I have been a working, tax paying white male american for 16 years.I am physically dealing with Sciatica in both legs,Severe pain in my lower back,Numbness and tingling in both arms and hands with severe neck pain.I reached a point where my employer fired me because I couldnt perform my job duties any longer.I have extensive medical documentation from my regular doctor and various specialists.I hate the fact that I am broken.I had to admit to my wife that I could no longer work in the trade that I had done for 16 years. We had to go to Welfare.Rent and power bills were long past due and I cant work to pay them. This has been a big pill to swallow for me.I dont take charity from no one.A hand up now and then is one thing but welfare is welfare. We have had to jump thru lots of hoops to receive "welfare".they want to know what you have in retirement,in the bank,in savings, what vehicles we own, everything.Currently we are receiving food stamps, medical and cash assistance. Here I sit, most days I can hardly walk out to the end of my porch.I get as much gunsmithing as I can to pay simple bills ike internet and telephone.I dont want to be in this situation but I dont really have any other choice.I payed into this system for many years and now I find that I have to fight the system in order to provide for my family.this is a fucked situation,it really is but supposedly this is why welfare is in place...

Exactly

And that is why it is there. And there is no shame for those who use it honestly. But I have nothing but contempt for those who make it their career and pass it on through generations. On another note I suffered from Sciatica at one time in my life- it was a living hell. My heart goes out to you. I was referred to a NUPPA chiropractor by a friend. I had no faith in chiropractors but I was desperate and willing to try anything at that point, as I was eating LORTABS like candy and still in excruciating pain. I literally crawled into his office that day. In six weeks he had me pain free and off the pain meds as well. A good NUPPA chiropractor will work magic with Sciatica.

Were on the same wave length here. When that "certain factions" had Sam upset we were afraid he was gona step down, and i think almost all of us (I know ecaman and myself) did our best to try to get him to stay. BUT if he would have steped down i wanted you to know that there were sure a lot of folks who wanted you to step up.. If i remember right this included Sam till he calmed down.. Just saying that cause i know that was a hard thing for you to put out there, and wanted you to know how much respect we have.. Knowing the situation, i have even more.. Enough of the sad/bad stuff, just know i hope and pray all gets better for you brother. Thats from my heart and soul. Ok gang, its late and geezers tired.. see ya in the am...

I agree with greg i don't want to get slapped either here. You paid your dues in more than one way, There is NO shame in the way you use the system...it was set up for you. The people I think cause the trouble for the lagitamate ones are the ones that are able bodied and to lazy to do anything. Down here in this area we have able bodied people working on thier third genaration of abusing the system and it hurts the people who actually need it. I am sorry that you are in constant pain, and I wish something could be done about it. Like you said you paid for this system and it's only right that it helps you out. Hell I think ya know what I'm trying to tell ya. Youre damn good people GP and that it what matters.

Welfare Abuse

Hang in there paws, you know we back you on this one. Jeff knows about welfare abuse first hand. Let me tell you all about my late almost daughter-in-law & her family. 3 little girls, mom & grand mom lived on a small farm just west of me. Grandma's late husband retired from Allison Gas Turbine (as did I much later). So she had a survivor's pension for income plus they rented the little farm land. Nobody worked for the 25 years I knew them. Food stamps, & whaever else they could scam. Oh, nothing prevented the mom from working except lazyness. It gets worse - once the girls (about 3-4 years apart) got to be teens mom turned them loose to breed like farm animals. The girls had their 2-3 kids each over the years, mom would babysit, collect all the adc, etc payments for the kids. That's how the whole family lived ... and you and I paid for that with our tax money!

Welfare abuse

Yep, thats pretty much what Im seeing around here. Only I see hundreds of families doing this. They are probably like cockroaches, in the respect that for every one that you notice there are a hundred more you cant see. And in other respects as well. I know I could sit here and bitch about this all day and all Id be doing would be bitching about it all day. Just needed to vent I guess. Let me say this. If I ever needed welfare I would use welfare and I really would not give a shit what any person thought of me for it. Just because some scumbags have abused it doesnt mean its not a good thing. It just needs a new sheriff in town.

You're a man, and a man's man. You've proved it in your life, and you continue to prove it. If you now need to take some of what the system has available (that you paid for already by the taxes on your pay), then do it. That's what the system was set up for.
What pisses us all off are the scum who never try to work and provide for themselves like decent, honest, upright citizens. Like the family that cbxjeff told about. We've seen these scum all our lives. I've lived and worked in and around St. Louis, Houston, Chicago and Philadelphia, and in the ghetto enclaves there these people are the rule, not the exception. They laugh at, make fun of, and scorn those individuals who "work for the man". It's not just in big city ghettos, either. There are people in my tiny home town in north Texas who have lived this way since the 1960's, when it became possible to live without ever working. It's everywhere. The moral fabric of our country has decreased dangerously.
All right - enough of the ranting about it. Now we know this situation, what can be done about it? How can we turn the country around? Are there any political figures to be found on whom we can trust and rely to lead the country back to honesty and integrity? Such people need to have the intelligence, experience and insight to address the many, many problems we have and offer real, reasonable, workable solutions. They need to have a proven track record of accomplishment. And they need to be identified as soon as possible.

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man. (Mark Twain).

Use your camera phone or carry a small digital cam with you that can take video...record it, record it all, every instance of shit like this you see and send it to me. If I get enough of them, I will pay to host it somewhere or something and then flood your local TV stations and call into radio stations, get the word out!!!

Hey Bravo

Here is another outcome of the same problem you describe above...and my solution. If someone on welfar has a second kid, cut their welfare checks...by 2%, another kid 5% Cut, then 10% for andditional kids or some formula like that. But here is the worst outcome of this: They keep having kids, who also become wards of the state because that is all the know and see from their parent (1) and these people tend to have more kids than families where both parents work, so in the end they will outnumber us, become a bigger voting block, continue to vote in people who will vote to give them more and more money (Dems/Liberals) and we all get fucked over and over again. There is only way this turns out...it's amazing how people don't see this, or they just ignore it. God Bless us all!!!

Now that you guys got me going ... remember I've been working & paying taxes since 02-01-62. The late Julia Carson (dem/urban indy) got elected years ago & went to D.C. Results? Well she had the worst voting record in memory, produced nothing, voted w/ party line. Just really heated the chair, rare as it was. How? Easy, she was the urban Indy welfare boss (whatever that job title is). She handed out the money for years. Sure she gets elected - all the folks that took the cash were her pal. Passed a couple of years ago. Who was appointed & then elected to her seat - her grandson! Am I a critic of the system? Sure. Why? Because it's so easy!

There are a lot of deserving people out there who are legitimately unable to work, but the fact of the matter is that using the law enforcement power of government to take money from one person and give it to another is wrong. It's the same principle as Universal Healthcare.

Don't get me started on Welfare. There have been cases too numerous to tell of UNdeserving families getting welfare. Women claiming each others kids so they can get more assistance. Driving up to the welfare office with Gucci bags and Escalades, makes me want to puke.

Piss tests for welfare recipients. Obviously we won't get rid of the welfare system, too many jobs for government goons, just like the IRS. But if federal and state employees are required to take piss tests, and if I'm required to submit to them as a condidtion of my employment, why don't welfare recipients have to do it? You want a check or food stamps? Give a clean urine sample. Collection and testing processes are already established, not like it'd be hard to do. I already contacted two of the AZ state reps and suggested it, but haven't heard back. maybe everyone should talk to their state reps about it. If nothing else, bring up the amount of money it would save the state by reducing welfare benefits. I can't imagine any state being opposed to this. Except, of course, California. Then again, welfare is a system designed to pacify the masses, so why tamper with a perfectly good source of kickbacks and corruption, right?

Thats a good point. I am going to draft up a letter and then track down the proper channels to reach the right ones. If nothing else I can attempt to put my bitching about it to some good use. (Theoretically)
