everyone in the world seems to forget the WWII Island hopping campaign leading up to the Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs being dropped on two populated cities of the Japanese Empire.

The US took a bunch of big boats and put a bunch of men and little boats on them. Went to a Island, put the little boats in the water, put the men in the little boats and went to shore. They started at one end of the Island and either Killed or Captured (killed for the most part) every single Japanese Solider until they reached the other end of the Island. Then they took all those men and put them on the little boats, went back to the big boats and loaded everyone and everything back up. They repeated this process of unloading, killing, loading until the war ended and would have continued it if the Emperor decided to give up.

Why anyone would think that they need to poke at that little green monster caged up inside the soul of the American people until it breaks the chains and rears its ugly head and takes it too them is beyond me.

Know something that still pesters the hell out of me. I remember as a kid watching the news and even now when you see a documentary about Vietnam you always see Anti War Protesters. Those scared little people, who bash their right to free speech while standing on the broken bodies of those who they protest which ensure that exact same right.

You never ever see the Pro War Supporters and there we there, each and every time some self important cry baby was screaming about NAM, they were there. They just never ever got any air time and they still do not.

I had to educate my daughter about the fact that not everyone in the USA was protesting. Also exactly why I feel that most of the protesters didn't have half a clue about the situation they were protesting. They only went as far as thinking about their own Mortality pretty much proving they were cowards from the get go.

Something that also gives me the creeps is the fact that so many of those same people who protested Vietnam were so ready to have others children and grand children go fight in Iraq and Afghanistan this time around.

When they were a bunch of dope smoking college aged kids facing their own mortality they sure as hell thought they had a right to scream and shout. All pissed off at their parents and grand parents for not seeing it their way, wanting to buck, fight, beat the system which everyone who did not see things there way was a part of.

Hypocrites

anyway...

half stepping, blahhh

I do not think anyone should be "pro-war" but if it comes...there are plenty of lessons in what General Sherman said to the citizens of Atlanta during the Civil War...

http://www.rjgeib.com/thoughts/sherman/sherman-to-burn-atlanta.html

I appreciate his quote:

"But, my dear sirs, when peace does come, you may call on me for any thing. Then will I share with you the last cracker, and watch with you to shield your homes and families against danger from every quarter."

I'm with you on that for sure.

"Pro War" was not the correct term really. Supporters of Military Action? that better?

hehe

Seriously though, I do not honestly think that many are Pro War as much as they support those in the Military when called upon to perform their duties in War.

My point though, was the fact that there were plenty of supporters of the actions in Vietnam and yet it was and is still twisted in it's presentation to people that the overwhelming number of youth in the USA did not Support US actions in Vietnam and it is not historically correct.

The cameras never presented the groups of supporters that were at every anit-war rally that was shown on the nightly news. The history is presented as some kind of concerted front including only those who went to Vietnam (or into the Military) and those who Protested.

Also that those same people who Protested, threw blood, spit on and basically made pariahs out of those who did rise to the need or call of the draft, those who served as many of the same people that even today dance around and shout about how we need to go (fill in the blank) this country, that group or this group.

They, piss me off to no end almost as bad as those who never went and put up picture frames with medals and ribbons on their walls making claims of being there and of having done that when they never even saw the inside of a recruiters office let alone taken an oath.

I realize I took what you typed and not what you meant (I.e. out of context). I knew what you meant, and agree with you. Sorry if I caused your blood pressure to elevate.

As for Greg, calm down man, we like having you around. Just think about the smell from spent casings at the most perfect day at the range...

Clint, no worries

no elevations... lol

I understood where you were coming from.
I do not care much for hearing people jump up and down on a Pro War stance either. Especially when a nominal number of them would never even consider actually doing any of the fighting.

Remember leading up to the Iraq war and Chris Mathews was going to all of the Colleges.

He would ask these young people who supported going to war and everyone would scream and holler, clap and whistle their support for doing just that.

Then he would ask for a show of hand of those who would leave college, go to the recruiters in the morning and enter the military to fight in that same War. Not one damn person in there would take him up on it. They were all for it, though I feel many of them felt like they had to be for it, up until that point.

anyway...

All usual "i was no danger ranger" disclaimers apply here.. matter of fact my home coming to Peoria Illinois was one that most "coast" folks didn't receive.. To ISD's point the middle of America was made up by the WWII generation that in whole supported the troops if not the war.. It was NOT the total anti war sentiment that the media suggests..

We all had our views on Vietnam.. Knew a lot of Vietnam Vets Against the War .. most every one of them were guided by the knowledge that (due to politicians not letting us into N Vietnam) it ceased to be a winnable war..

We lost two out of 10 planes.. 12 men each, in my squadron..(operation market time.. coast watch missions) had we been allowed to mine the major NV harbor it would probably have cost those same two P-3's.. but that mining would have been as effective an end to the war, as the use of nukes in Japan..

All shipments of materials, weapons, and tech/mil personnel was allowed completely unchecked into North Vietnam, Haiphong harbor was off limits, and a freeway of shipment from Russia, China, and NKoria.. Nothing but politics, and that spilled over to the military as well.. only so many KIA's being allowed per month etc.. The whole thing was a political shit storm..

Jane.. sheesh.. that stupid kid "bradass" will spend his life (could be executed) for being a traitor, over leaks to Wiki leak.. What he did was an act of treason.. in my sincere opinion.. what Jane did was worse.. her reward was millions.. Not bitter or anything..

I spent almost a month in great lakes navy hospital starting two months after we returned, I was on an orthopedic ward for a football injury..As i wore all the Vietnam ribbons those in the ward due to injuries suffered in combat would open up, course they loved to kid me..

Got myself worked up, and crying as i write this... Can't tell you what that was like. These great guys, none of them ever complained .. Then the lights would go off and half the ward would cry themselves to sleep..

Hanoi Jane,

my dad HATED that CU*T (some words are too harsh, even for me on a public forum). Pop was in ROTC during Korea (excellent student) and volunteered for Vietnam in '64 or '65, he was always pretty 'tight lipped' about that part of his life (deployment) but every once in a while after a few 'tall ones' he would open up and the shit that he recalled made your stomach churn.........

Prison is a rough environment.. Found working with the women that they swear more than the men.. That was one of only about four words that i refused to tolerate.. Lock an I/M down for an evening and it's amazing how they lose vocabulary skills.. Oddly this was never an issue with the men..

Know what bothers me most about Jane.. When she collected the names from the POW's (all given discreetly) and then turned them over to the NVN commander who promptly beat a number of them, and (not sure if this is accurate or antidote) one was killed in the process..

Poor old Henry who was one of the heros had to live with the disgrace..Ok.. nuff.. sorry bout the emo earlier.. BP is normal, sanity is still questionable..

Ironic isn't it

Hell remove religion from it and it boils down to something everyone damn well should be able to grasp.

We have a group of people in this country made up of some from outseide this country who came here. Recruited citizens to follow them to attempt destroying it, which makes them out right enemies of the State and every law abiding citizen.

Seems to me that killing them all upon sighting them should not be questioned.

Want to test any new Ordnance, here are let me put our FAOCV on the phone.

Yeah, society at it's finest.
I know that nations have their up and down cycles but we've not had a very long "up" this time. It is likely because our society has thrown itself into the mud, little or no self respect, nothing to be proud of.
Liberals are so damn stupid, they don't realise that the destruction of our constitution will not only eat conservatives but by natural progression will turn on them as well in time.
Sucks to be us.

Daisys absolutely right, if we had been allowed to win the war we would have.. As stupid as that sounds its correct.

Instead they followed McNamara's plan of carpet bombing, this was shown in WWII to have the opposite of desired effect..The citizens of Dresden or Berlin were the same as London or Tokyo.. Or Hanoi.. Bombing only reinforced their bond..

Had we been allowed to go into the North, or even just stop the flow of materials and manpower to it.. We would have won the war.. at a lot less cost of lives..

Least those returning today or welcomed with respect.. Can you imagine what those who were incapacitated dealt with having a hostile homecoming as well as disability..
