The liberals may believe in the big bang theory
and they may be right but the matter came from
somewhere even before that. Somewhere there
was a very beginning. From there what really matters.
And if you want to know if there was ever life on Mars,
spend your money, not mine finding out.
I would rather find what lurks in the deep dark ocean
here.

1911 and the Trinity

"Explain the Trinity" is not a question, but a demand or a request.

If there is no limit to what God can create, then there has to be a question without an answer. By the way, how would you argue that statement, it is like saying: "I'm glad I don't have everything, because where would I put it all."

" there is no limit to what god can create" That is precisely (help me out if i spelled that wrong) why the question can have no answer.

Good to hear Brad,

I like mythbusters, I might go fire up the PS3 in a few and satisfy my "need for speed"....My 9mm dies showed up today but the brass and bullets that I ordered with them did not, otherwise I would be in my 'man cave' making ammo!

"Let there be Light!" Bang! Seems like the same thing to me. I've been doing a little reading in String Theory and Branes. It seems to me advanced physics is getting more Godly every day. It's just that the Universe is vastly more complex than we thought. When I was a little kid my Mother told me God made the Earth. I asked her, "How did he get it out of his workshop?" Many years later she told me she didn't know what to say. But that's simplistic thinking on my part (Excuse: I was three.) What it all comes down to, IMHO, is that science and religion must ultimately arrive at the same conclusions. Intellectually, there really is no other choice.

Agreed Schuyler,

I grew up with a Father that was a Geologist, a pure scientist and grandparents on my Mothers side that were good Mormons, so I found a way to integrate the two. Although I do not practice as a Mormon nor do I believe some of their 'Gas', I do believe in God and I will make my peace with him when the time comes. Big bang theory and religion can coexist.

is right up there. There's an interesting book that was published quite a few years ago now called "The Tao of Physics." by a guy named Fritof Capra, which discusses this very issue. In the middle of the book is a spread of black pages, meant to simulate a blackboard. On the left is a series of equations. Deep stuff. Beats me what it is. On the right is a page of Sanskrit. You can't tell the difference. That, of course, is his point, that there are many ways to approach Truth, some more poetic and metaphorical than others. But ultimately, they have to be discussing the same thing.

Question ?

Clint, I'll re-phrase "What is the Trinity"? I have no idea what point you are trying to make with your other comment, but I quess you will be explaining it soon.

Anyway, I think its a question without an answer because so far no one has been able to answer it. Just trying to add a different point of view since I am new here.

By the way Schuyler I am not trying to impress anybody, just trying to blend in.

I have an answer for your question "what is the trinity?": I do not know for sure.

That is a viable answer. It is not necessarily what you want to hear, but it is an answer.

As for the other, I was just trying to point out (Schuyler did a much better job, alas he is a ninja) that it is very difficult to explain your religious beliefs to others that do not share your same belief. There could be 3 different people in a church all believers of the God, but they could interpret the Bible differently. But they all still believe in the Savior.

I like Nitris' answer, what a high octane injection of reason (sorry for the play on words).

Feel like a school kid, over here.. over here..

Interesting foot note to the "big bang" thing is that this was first theorized by a Catholic priest, can't remember his name, but do remember that "Lovell" (of observatory fame) had a dissenting openion on this.. At the time this was considered a spiritually based argument for the origin of the universe.. Now as its pretty much excepted, and we know the universe is actually expanding faster all the time, it no longer carries any "religious" stigma.

It's always tickled me how some in academia like to portray believers as closed minded, the reality is the Catholic church still has a shit load of observatories around the world, and i think the vast majority of us "gunsluters" have a common thread on this issue.. we believe, and at the same time have an interest in science that's not threatening to those beliefs.

I personally do believe in the trinity, but that's one of those issues that's a bit to close to "religion", and in turn scares the shit out of me.. I see my belief in God (and the trinity) as the most important thing in my life.. I see most religion(s) as destructive forces, that take something beautiful, and set up arbitrary rules and dogma around it that spread hate and serve man. Guess im not going to get invited to the local church of whats happening now, which is fine (except for the wed dinner thing) as i see more honest belief on here than the PTL club.

First off, I believe in The father, Son and the HOLY goast. that being said i also live in the 21st century and therefore my religion is practice for the 21st century. how's the quote go? " Give to worldly authorities the things that belong to them, and to God what belongs to God.” my pastor is not thrilled about my gun hobby nor is he happy the way i run my trucking business. Trucking is not operated by Nuns its a cut throat business. and believe it or not, I have read the bible cover to cover and still pick it up from time to time. But science cannot explain the vastness of space and until somebody can tell me the wonderful things i see from the inside of my telescope came from two atoms bumping together by accident...well hell I choose to believe in god

I have reasons for the things I do, just don't expect them to be reasonable

Funny thing is ivantank, religion killed christ. The religious leaders of the church had Christ put to death. I believe in the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, God knows where your heart is, man has no idea.

God didn't kill christ, the religious leaders of that time period did. God knew he would have to die and so did he, and God knew who would betray him.

Mel Gibson would point out a very particular religious group as responsible....

Imagine facing brutal death but with one you believe to be god in the flesh.... Would brutal death not be better than renouncing your relationship and beliefs? The disciples that did not join Christ were fools and not true believers in my humble honest opinion... Otherwise death would be the fast pass to proving your loyalty....

Just my humble honest opinion....

some of us might be a a page are two behind others, but yep were on the same wave length.. easy peasy japanesey.. That one got me laughing, got to remember that one while im sitting around the "home" guessing tattoos.

I'm reading it for the first time Ivan... up to Corinthians II.. i was sorta happy to get finnished with a couple of books in the OT.. Nothing like what i expected, now it's a pleasure to read..Just about finnished, sure is funny how im having a hard time finding most of the things "religion" says is wrong.. matter of fact it sorta seems the old boys liked thier wine just fine.. maybe that's on the last page and i haven't got to it yet...

By the way this is the time to buy in AZ.. serious here Ivan if that bussiness sells anytime soon your going to get more for your money right now than anytime i can remember.. Property is selling for LESS than half of what it was a few years ago.. So low its a little scary..

Do you think that property values in AZ will continue to drop, given the current level of adversity between the federal government and the political majority in AZ? There are movements to do no business in AZ, and to hold no nationwide events in AZ, etc., etc., in order to punish Gov. Brewer and all the other liberally perceived bigots in the state. Will this hurt property values? Will it hurt the overall economic situation in AZ?

We own rental properties and other land in Arizona and based on my experience and personal assumptions the market will drop until 2011-2012 where it will plateau for 1-2 years and then slowly build back up along with the economy. That is assuming we don't get stuck with everyone's friend Osama, Obama, or whatever his name is supposed to be....

The economy is tied to the housing market... Loans are not as easy to get so the qualified buyers demand is much less than usual. This is the time to buy your rental properties...

The Death of Christ

The Death of Christ, Or the Plan of Salvation. Jesus came to the Earth for a reason. This reason was to die for mankind. He died for all of our Earthly SINS.The people of the time were there to do just that. To have a trial, sentance him to Death, and kill (crusify) the Savior of the World. Crusifixion is the slowest, most painful way to die. Now God the Father could have saved his Son from this death. Jesus could have saved Himself from this Death. Jesus knew through his Father, that He was "The Sacrifice".God so loved the World that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever belived in Him shall not Parish! Satin didnot know of the Plan. (The Devel wanted Jesus to die) Satin had a strong hold on the people. Had Satin Known of the "Plan" Jesus would not have lost His Earthly Life. , so that we humans could be resrected, repent of our earthly sins, and return to our Father in Heaven. Jesus was the first to be Reserected, to HAVE LIFE AFTER DEATH!
Through Christ, we can be Reserected also, too live again!
The Trinity, consists of, God the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ and The Holy Ghost.Three different Beings.
These things I hold to be true, through study, prayer, and living life.
I hope to have been of some help,
Science knows nothing of God!

I like the quote, it is stright on!
I'll bet your Dogs first name Is Johnathan! : ) We all know the Moses part!
Yes, I firmly belive that God places us in certin spots in time on the earth. Remember Gents, that God Knows ALL. After all he built the place. He knew that he would stock the "Promised Land" (America) With men that would follow his teachings. Thats why our fore Fathers left England! Thank you God! I hate the English! ( my sir name is old English) They left to get away from the Church of England, to follow their own belifes. God knew the people would fight the Queen/ King. and then the Brits. He (preordained) assembled these learned men, and they formed the United States , , ( no Libs. here) Then all the rest is History, War between the States, ww-1 came along, with Browning and the BAR!, & Machinegun. WW2, his .50 cal.'s, Hellsakes The Lord knew he had to come up with a plan to protect the "Promised Land! Thus J.M. Browning!!!!
Have you ever Pondered the thought, "why was I born, in The United States of America"?
Why not in Russia, Germeny, Poland, or God forbid, some armpit smelly shithole( Kenya) somewhere on the earth? Ask your self, Who worked on The Mannhattin Project? people that knew their shit came to the US to build the BOMB. And two were used! We beat the Germeny & the Slant Eyed Rice Eaters to the Punch. God will do what needs done!!
It is written, that the Constution will hang by a thread.__________ What say You??

Thomas Jefferson graduated from William & Mary and became a lawyer. John Adams went to Harvard and became a lawyer. James Madison attended William & Mary and graduated from Princeton. Alexander Hamilton went to Columbia University and John Jay graduated from Columbia. Of the traditional Founding Fathers only Washington and Franklin did not have college educations, though Benjamin Franklin was certainly as learned as any of them.

Just a little hobby of mine to read biographies of all the Founding Fathers and the Presidents (except Obozo) I've read ones on Andrew Jackson, Teddy Roosevelt, and Truman. I've got a long way to go.

Dang finally !!!!!

Something was up with our site and it was showing up all funny for A LONG TIME and I thought I was going to miss out on the one conversation I really wanted to be in.

I'm in Ivantanks camp,, old trucking company owner and been thru the Good Book cover to cover several times.

Lyle will like Luke 22,,,,it is where we are commanded to own a defense weapon.

I trouble not about the big bang. The Father is the only that can make something from nothing (( Scientist gathered as in the days of Babylon and said "LOOK we can make a man and woman now." "and we have all the right laws too" " so we don't need God right now" "call him in and we'll show him we can create right now" ....God answers and says ...."wait ....get your OWN dirt first." ))

But "science" only confirms the existence of the Father. '....for if no man were to praise him ...the rocks and the trees would cry out." What is Archeology?? The "science" of the rocks and fossils testifying that there is a God ......and we aren't it aye.

The Trinity is Smallville. First chapter of Job will show you there is more than one son. But truly don't read into this other things. The one Son we have (the Son part of the Father) had his Perfect plan of Salvation in our Messiah, Brother, Friend, and King of all Kings, Lord above all lords.

I'd like to tell you to take note that the Book of Genesis and Revelation are the same Book. Two men worshiping !! WORSHIPING the Same God !! Worshiping the RIGHT God !! (check yourself here) ....BUT one did it his way the other God's way !!

Now Revelation ....two women One Right,, one Wrong (women now represent 'the church' body ) now insert One Church Politic (NOT de-nomination) doing it God's way,,,, the other Church Politic (not de-nomination) doing it THEIR way) ( Jeremiah .....seven women will take hold one man and say ' let us eat our own bread BUT be called by thy Name to take away our reproach' Danger Danger will Robinson)

Now See this in its simplest term. Two Christianities !!

We should be Judeo Christians,,, but I ,,,and we are likely the other counterfeit ....Roman Christianity( I used to be). Not the same thing. That is why the Good Book. explains the difference for those who read and hear. Counterfeit looks like the real,, sounds like the real,, smells like the real, walks like the real,, but has you 'caught' ,,,Satan has a counterfeit for everything,, so for good men of ALL the ages and histories,, he just simply made a counterfeit Christianity aye.

Enough for now.

Schuyler those reads were cool to me too. Truman aye !! Shoe salesman, then dropped an Atom Bomb,, then was reduced to deciding which cow was to get their vitamin shot on a dairy farm. Somethin' aye.

I started hearing it from my east coast comrades first. A few years later it appeared to be everywhere. Now my grandkids say it. I've never liked it, but (shrug) it's here. Edit to add: I guess not. My bad. From phrases.org.uk

Origin

This slang term originated in about 1970. At that time, i.e. pre the widespread use of the Internet, slang terms often circulated at street level for many years before being adopted by anyone who felt inclined to write them down. That's clearly not the case any longer of course and any word or phrase that is widely known is dateable quite precisely via website logs.

The first citation in print is C. Wielgus and A. Wolff's, 'Back-in-your-face Guide to Pick-up Basketball', 1986:

"My bad, an expression of contrition uttered after making a bad pass or missing an opponent."

Shakespeare used the term with something like the current meaning, in his Sonnet 112:

Your love and pity doth the impression fill
Which vulgar scandal stamp'd upon my brow;
For what care I who calls me well or ill,
So you o'er-green my bad, my good allow?

That's clearly just coincidence, and it's hardly surprising that such a fragmentary phrase would appear in a large body of work like Shakespeare's. It's also a world away from pick-up basketball, which is an informal street sport where players frequently call out to each other (trash talking), and is a well-known source of street lang.

'My bad' came into widespread popular use in the mid to late-1990s in the USA via the 1995 movie “Clueless”. This starred Alicia Silverstone and contains what seems to have been the first use of the phrase in the mainstream media. The 1994 'Green revision pages' for the movie script has a scene with Alicia Silverstone's character learning to drive:

"Cher swerves - to avoid killing a person on a bicycle. Cher: Whoops, my bad."

Although a street term, it is virtually synonymous with the earlier Latin phrase, 'mea culpa'. It doubtless has as little of a direct descent from this as it does from Shakespeare's Sonnet 112.

'My bad' has gained that unequivocal accolade - imitation. In REM's 2004 song 'Leaving New York' there is this verse, which as you see includes 'my proud':

You might have laughed if I told you
You might have hidden a frown
You might have succeeded in changing me
I might have been turned around
It's easier to leave than to be left behind
Leaving was never my proud
Leaving New York, never easy
I saw the light fading out

The Doonesbury cartoon strip for 14th June 2006 included this:

"Okay, I'm bitter that I have to support myself! There I said it! My brave."
