An old but interesting article from Oct. 2000.

Over the years I've noticed target shooters/plinkers going for the silhouette at 25yds or less. I'm not so much interested in the gunfight skills as I am in developing the skills to put all my bullets into the smallest possible area. I liked the 50yd line because of the challenge, putting them in the 10 ring IS tough.

I agree

But the problem is there aren't a whole lot of ranges where you have a 50 yard target area anymore. Even when I was in the Academy our longest distance was 25 yards, as is the range where we requalify every year, and almost all of your indoor ranges are smaller than that. Short of either owning or having a friend who owns a lot of land in the middle of nowhere where you can go shoot there's really not much opportunity to shoot long distance shots.

the opposite corner of my house. It's windy here often so I usually stay with 25.
Ayoob's point was police are not prepared for shootouts reaching 50 yds but they should be.

Again, I agree, I think anyone who's going to use a weapon as a part of their profession should be able to use that weapon at extreme distances. A lot of the problem for law enforcement and corrections officers is after the shoot, when the lawyers and overthinkers come into play and invariably come up with "Well if this suspect was 50 yards away why did you have to shoot him?" Then you've got a cop possibly facing murder charges because some liberal thug hugger thinks it's only okay to use your gun when it's too late. We qualified at a top distance of 25 yards, but even our instructors warned us about using our weapons at that distance for just that reason. And, as agencies become more lawsuit wary they change their training and policies to appease the lawyers and things we should be doing and practicing, like using our sidearms at distances beyond 25 yards, falls by the wayside and line officers find themselves in danger from both sides.

down range.
Gun show in the area on the 10th but I've been leaning on Mrs Daisy to save $$, cut back on trips to the store so I'm trying to figure out how to convince her that going to the gun show will save us BIG BUCKS LOL !!
So your pup is doing fine huh? That's nice.
I've become a "not a dog" guy, don't want them around for a few reasons but Mrs Daisy's son has an English Bull puppy that (DON"T TELL A SOUL) I'd bring home in a second.
I had one several years ago, "Penny". Sweet pooch.
Lemme know how you Monday went!
Shore Patrol Truck !! LOL

Let me check the search and see if i can find this.. If not will send you details just as soon as i can, ..yep it was one of those step side 3 on the tree.. grew up driving one, but was beyond doing more than two functions at the same time.. what saved me was they took a statement that night and when i went to the XO's mast he read it, and had a hard time keeping a straight face.. Remember something about "i attempted to egress the truck, but was unable to find door handle as i believe both hands were busy trying to find the gear shift".. Got lucky, part of this was cause we had been with a group of O's, and you KNOW that didn't happen very often..

a 13 hr mission, got back at sunrise. 1st Lt kid can/woke me/told me to get into dress whites fast & go to CO's office. He was pissed off that there was a party in the barracks complete w/bottle rockets. Did not matter that I was dead to the world asleep resting. Crew 10 radio'ed in an in flight emergency just then, we were let off with a warning. Crock of shiite!
