Evidently, I'm not alone. Last week, I bought the last several boxes of 9mm FMJ at my local Wal Mart. I went back today and they were out. They told me they were also out at the distribution center. They had one box of .45 and maybe half a dozen different rifle cartridges, and lotsa' .22's but that was about all.

Is it just me.....Why is it that every time there is something about how this A hole is going to take our rights away there is some other A hole trying to make a buck off of it......I mean I am all for free enterprise and capitalism, I love it. But, I just think this goes a little far.

I saw the email sent to the Wal-mart here, saying ammunition was getting harder to come by and for all stores to expect to receive rations much less than usual. Prices are not just going up because of the demand for ammo, the Chinese have been buying copper and other metals like crazy, and they are driving the prices up.

ammo prices

for better than 2 years now, ammo has steadily gone up in price because of raw materials cost(where have you guys been?)the latest worry that has retailers in a quandry is the proposed ammo engraving legislation.they dont want to be caught with their pants down and have a shit load of non engraved ammo and have to dispose of it and not sell it.plus, with the "scare"happening the ammo makers, with the war and all, cant even keep up with the demand of ammo production!

Speaking of ammunition, I don't know about the Gander Mountains in your areas, but the one in mind is sky high for ammo. For the Blazer Brass 9mm that I can get at Wal Mart for 8.97 (when I can find it), they want around 14 dollars for, and it's the exact same thing. I've noticed this on almost all of their ammo.

since I deployed last time. 100 rds of Win 9mm FMJ Value Pack was 11.34 at Wal-mart in 07, now it's 19.96 a box.

That's what I did. A friend gave me a Lee single-stage press, and I have everything but bullets now. I really need to save for a progressive press, because I am waaaay behind on case preparation. It's going to be hard to catch up with an O-press

You can do just fine with a beam scale, for less money. I'd like to see what all he circled, as a bullet puller and scale being your first choices seems strange

ebear!

buy a uniflow measure and a rcbs 505 scale!it is a beam scale but you dont need all that new shit.keep it simple it is safer that way!once you have been reloading for awhile(year at the least)then look into those modern fancy gadgets.i have been handloading for rifles and handguns for a few years now and i use a rcbs pre-rockchucker press(single stage)rcbs or lee dies, lee case trimmer(for rifle brass)lee primer deburring tool, rcbs deburring tool(case mouth)and a tin of Imperial Sizing Die wax.

Case lube

is not necessary if you buy carbide pistol dies, but I prefer to use Hornady one shot case lube spray anyway. I've never used case lube on a pad, the spray just seems easier.

ebear!

the cabelas kit is basically what i have.that price is a good buy!most reloaders that will teach think you need all the fancy shit they have.not so!keep it simple!!!!!!!!!!you aint gonna be loading ammo for commercial sale,so you have all the time in the world!the way i learned it(from someone who had been reloading for 40 years!!!)is the more times you handle the components with your hands, the more faulty(cracked, split cases)you will find before you try to fire them in your gun!

Reloading is great

Every man wants the feeling of self-sufficiency and independence, and reloading does that. It's also cool to work up loads for your gun. I am no expert, and there are some who can tell you loads off the top of their heads, but I've done enough that I'm no longer afraid of blowing myself up. Wait 'till you fire off your first handloaded round. I was wishing for a vice and string for my first round, but after that, it's been great.
