i dont entirely aggree with that. Yes i think you should be able to say "Merry Christmas" without getting sued or having "politically correct" monger swarm you. How are you going to get a jewish person to say that? or anyone from another religious belief for that matter. You should be able to say merry christmas, happy kwanza, happy chanuka <---- and so on... whatever, as an expression of good will towards each other. the holidays have gotten so commercialized thet the real meaning of anything has been long forgotten by most these days anyway.

I would take it one step farther coldfront. Under the protection of the first amendment of the United States Constitution, you have the intrinsic right to say what you wish (minus a few caveats). If you want to say happy holidays, do it, if you want to say Merry Christmas, do it. I will always say Merry Christmas, but I will never tell someone what they must do. I see this as very unconstitutional and leading towards a slippery slope.

Well said Clintbo. Remember when Lowes advertised their "Holiday Trees" last year in fear of losing customers, being sued, not being PC etc... thats total BULLSHIT. They have been called Christmas Trees since their existance, and now because of groups like ACLU and others, everyone has to watch their mouths. F that shit. Merry Christmas to all! honor your own belief and in a friendly not pushy fashion just say what you believe...if you do not believe God, do not pretend too. I have always said "Merry Christmas" to everyone...my jewish friends return with something like "merry Christmas& and happy honica" (sp?)
It is not our place to root out everyone's personal beliefs, forget our own, and honor only others. it is our place to properly defend and present our beliefs. This "season" was originated as "Christmas". If the Athistic religionists want their own holiday, let 'em take April 1st, it is more fitting than taking away Christmas...and our giving away Christmas only serves to honor their religion and dishonor our own.
Giving in to the politically correct is what has eroded our country to the "Progressive" position it has reached.
Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus...let us keep him, let the other religions, including the religion of Atheism, create and maintain their own separate holiday...the Bible clearly states only fools deny God...thus April 1 is perfect for them, let them take that, let us keep Christmas.

if you look at my posting--"With Best Wishes from the Old Dude"... I was trying to be humorous about political correctness versus a plain old down to earth, good neighbor type greeting.
I happened to have labelled the PC greeting "Liberal", and the downtoearth one "Conservative" as a good natured needle, to contrast just how bent over backwards and turned insideout PC has made some of us sound.
For me-- I always assume that I am greeting a reasonable person of good will, who is not going to be insulted or consider my greeting as evangelizing, or an assault on their freedom of belief. So far, I have always received what I expected...resonableness and a returned expression of genuine friendship.

In a corporate environment, I need to worry about saying anything. Very bitter people use human resources as a bitching tool for anything the hate. It is hate, becuase I am a white christian hetero male. Many even dislike me just because of my military service.
In latter years we would get a Holiday bonus which was nice about $200. One person complained and it was gone. This person cost all the employees $200 for christmas,Chaunaka or whatever.
Even the fourth of July is a problem. What the hell? Political correctness makes running a business too difficult, no wonder our jobs are being outsourced. The litigation expenses alone are worth it.
I have no problem with Gay awarness day which is when the gay guys ask for donations. I have no problem with Jewish, Moslem, Festivas or any other deal. Happy Chanakka would no offend me to go to HR.
But the attack on Christmas is a joke. Fuck all the complaining bitches that cost me my $200 holiday bonus. My wife says fuck you too.

for 38 years, and it was nothing like you described, Demo. People admired and respected each other, EVEN when they disagreed vehemently, because they knew that's how you make the Company go and grow. We knew the brainpower that was there was priceless, and the only way you got criticized was if you did not contribute. THAT is the real "Diversity"; as opposed to the PC kind, that proposes certain proportions of different races, creeds, colors, sexes, national origins, physically/mentally challenged, etc., ad nauseum, regardless of real capability.
The company work atmosphere is projected from the Top management down. If they just talk a good game, and allow the middle management and first line supervisors to mistreat the troops and permit harassment over things like you described, eventually that company will FAIL, or be fighting unions for the rest of their lives.

Things have changed. Affirmative action, legal libility equal opportunity have created an environment where people sue when they do not get their way. We have created an inferior workplace when decisions are made based on race, sexual orientation and gender.

Your statement sounds as though you are making a very broad brush, emotional criticism of the work environment, in all industries, large and small, all over the USA. I doubt that you have had nearly enough employment experience in enough companies, to even begin to make such a sweeping criticism, validly.
It is obvious also, that you do not have accurate information about the existing civil rights laws as they pertain to the workplace. I am not defending such laws and regulations as nearly perfect, however they do offer an aggrieved person the ability to state the grievance to a third party, and have it investigated. I have no idea what you mean by "get their way", however, an employee cannot sue, until he/she has exhausted their "administrative remedy", available under those laws and regulations.
As to your last sentence, if you are talking about so-called "affirmative action", I actually agree with you.
The principle still stands: anyone who believes he/she has been discriminated against by their employer, and that includes by their employer's other employees, not just management, should file a formal charge with the proper federal and/or state agency, and have the case investigated. If you do not have the cohones to at least do that, your complaining here will not get you much.

When I deem it necessary to actually communicate with people in a cordial manner, I like using "happy holidays". It is not political correctness that guides me, but rather laziness. Rather than say "Merry Christmas and happy New Year's", it's easier to combine them into "Happy Holidays" as there are two holidays. It has nothing to do with religion or political correctness. I try to keep religion out of Christmas anyway. Santa Claus does not play well with others.

Well said. Thats my problem- I am forced to hear gay propaganda but prohibited from talking about Christmas. I do not go to work to preach, just mention I took my kids to church, worked the church fundraiser, send my kids to Christian school, wear a cross. I have had people point out they did not like to see my cross out.
This is liberalism gone to a facist level. I think the major problems began with gay marriage being stopped by CA supreme court. Proposition 8 has enraged 1% of my co-workers. They go to work to preach. They see my cross and casual comments as a way to get back at 'the man'.
Management does not want to deal with it.

I have thought about complaining but backed off becuase I need this job. Our Lousianna Rep actually got a lawyer and has pending litigation. But he is being penalized, sure to get fired. Its a double edge knife. But he is arguing against federally protected individuals.
My other thought about the liberal bias in the system is the effect on business. Business has been forced for too long to promote people on status not merit. This hurts us in every way and gives voices to radicals to promote thier agenda. I could complain every day, but then I would be a whiner or complainer- my problem is being able to give the hostile commentary back. If I were to send the hostile comments back to the Black, gay or female person who made a horrble racist or anti-christian comment, I would be the one at human resources getting sensitivity training.
For example, a gay person named #### was very upset and made a comment 'fuck jesus' twords me. If I went off and said anything negative about his gerble felching fagness, he would make a complain immediately. He is protected because he sucks dick. I have no protections becuase I am white, hetero christian.
Second was Tom. Tom made many mistakes during the year. He was drinking and driving, poor work ethic. We fired him. JOse is another poor worker who just sucks at everything he does. He has sucked for 10 years. But we can not get rid of him because he is protected.
I am not making this shit up. Real examples, just scatching the surface.
If Tom's first name was Jose, Tom would still be with us.
