Prefered Carry Ammo?

What do you have in your daily carry right now? In my .380-Hornady Critical Defense. In my .357-Federal 130 grain HYDRA SHOK.

ammo

Most of my guns have different types of ammo, but in my carry .40 I usually keep 140gr. corbon DPX loaded. I have Hornady TAP FPD in some, Hydra Shocks in some, winchester SXT, Federal HST, Corbon JHP in others. All good stuff.

My ammo

I was using Cor bon +P 125 gr JHP in my Glock 19 and G 26, but I've started using Speer Gold Dot HP Short Barrel loads as they feed a bit better and group better in my gun.

I've never been a fan of gold dot. Aren't Corbon's JHP loads qiute a bit hotter?

The listed velocity of the Cor bon is a bit higher, but not much. My primary concern is with reliability and accuracy first. The only reason I use +P in the first place is to get the velocity for reliable expansion out of my short barrels. If I could ever get my hands on the Critical Defense 9mm load, I might use that. The Hornady tech service guy said it's designed for short barrels and may even suffer from overexpansion out of service barrel lengths.

I like Hydro Shoks

I have so much trouble with Cor-Bon's that I don't even use them anymore. Maybe the XDm40 will feed Cor-Bon's better than the PT-92 does. If not, the Hydro Shoks are a good round. Gold Dots are a second choice.

Corbon just doesn't feed as well in any gun in the initial chambering. I haven't had any problems with it working during firing, but locking and loading, it sometimes jams against the feed ramp. I stopped using it because of this. If i have to reload, I don't want to worry about having a malfunction after a mag change. Gold Dot +P beats the Hydra shok hands down. the hydra shok is an overrated round. It is good, but not as good as people give it credit for. The round I was very disappointed with was the Remington Golden Sabre. I have read very good reviews as far as accuracy in 45 ACP, but the 9mm loading in standard and +P is terrible. The only defense load I've found less accurate is the Extreme Shock ammo, and that stuff looks like you're patterning a shotgun.

I like Golddot and Golden Saber, they both have pretty nasty looking mushrooms

Survey Says

I like using my hand loads for personel defense. That way I can tweak the load to what ever affect I want. A cool trick I learned take your standard hollow point round drill threw the round and insert a screw in the hole just to where the screw is just below the top of the hollow point, I like to use 3/4inch long screws. Load the round just like normal into your brass, and these little babies will punch a hole right threw any bullet resitent vest. The accuracy in not affected to much your group may spread out about 2-5 inches at twenty paces.

Freind recommended

A freind that did some testing will safari land vests did this and they got complete penetration on 4 level 3 vest and the round imbedded it self into the wall behind the vests. They were using a 44 Mag. for the testing.

I agree with Reaper

I believe handloaded rounds can be defended in court if they are more accurate than factory offerings, but if you use that round and get sued for wrongful death, you will be broke for life.

The only time these loads will be used is in a shit hits the fan senario. When having to defend myself in court for defending myself from tyrants asking for my non-coded ammo. My main loads I carry in my conceal carry piece are just hot loaded hollow points straight off the hillbilly rcbs bullet factory.

Runaway

I consider someone coming into my home where me and my family sleep a SHTF situation. Come into my home without my permision the person gets a special round. Someone walks up and messes with me on the street they get a standard hot loaded hollow point. Is that clear enough of an explanation.
Home defense=Nasty Rounds
Outside home defense=standard hot rounds
