Franklin D Roosevelt - 1st really socialist President. WPA, Social Security, Welfare and after all this time it still isnt working.

Harry S Truman - Really an OK guy. Pragmatic and had the balls to end WWII.

Dwight D Eisenhower - We wound him up and watched him do nothing for 8 yrs. But really thank him for our Interstate Highway Program, which was designed after the german Autobahn. They all have places big enough at the time to land airplanes if needed. He did send 1 million Mexicans back to mexico during "Operation Wetback" Even that name wouldn't make it now.

John F. Kennedy - Probably the most conservative of all the othe Kennedy wannabes. Mafia had him elected with rigged elections all over the US with the the help of Jimmy Hoffa. Then his bro, turned against the Mafia and teamsters and JFK was assasinated to show Bobby the error of his ways. Don't really know why Bobby was killed other than he was an obnoxious asshole. Biggest blunder was the Bay of Pigs invasion, when JFK left the Cuban Patriots stranded on that beach to die!

Lyndon Baines Johnson - Sort of fell into this job. Johnson was a very crooked politician one of the old school Dems. He had strong ties to Organized Crime. Always curious to me how NASA was built on his wifes land near Houston,Texas. LBJ had the most to gain if JFK was assasinated. The 1964 Civil Rights act would never have passed had it not been for the Republicans in the Congress and Senate. Democrats, mostly Southern, were very anti civil rights.

Richard M Nixon - probably the sorriest of times in US history. If I could take back 1 vote, this would be it. was a diplomat 1st and a maniacal power barron. Any means justified the end. Sort of like todays democrats.

Gerald R Ford - Unfortunately he was VP when Nixon resigned. A sad bumbler on unsure ground. Can't say too much pretty ineffectual as a Leader of the free world.

Jimmy Carter - another great mistake. Wanted everyone to feel good and make nice. For a Naval Officer in WWII he was a terrible mistake as a military leader. he ucked the Shah of Iran, let the Muslims take over. Fucked around and let US citizens and our sovereign soil rot in Iran. 365 days too long. Failed rescue, when we should have went in full force and put Iran in its place.

Ronald Reagan - The great Orator, could sell sand to arabs and refridgerators to eskimos. A man of high Principles. Proved to the world that Arabs are afraid of Power. Ended a 30 year Cold War, were I an my family felt safe for the first time in my lifetime, from an attack by the Russian Communists. Reunited Europe. brought financial stability and prosperity to the US. This is why he is so hated by the Dems, he did what they could never do.

Geo H Bush - I liked the guy, but he had a hard act to follow. I think he got caught up in this 1000 points of Light and New World Order that these Harvard and Yale guys seem to love. I just don't understand it. he should never have run for a second term, because his heart wasn't in it.

William Clinton - What a joke. A known communist/marxist wannabe. Never had a real job. Draft dodger, liar and manaical sex addict. His wife was an intern to Saul Alinsky, a communist labor and social organizer. Creator of lie, cheat and steal your way to power. Believer in distribution of wealth as he never owned his own home til after his presidency was over and he could buy and outfit with Public and other peoples money. Went to Communist countries when it wasn't allowed. Gov of Arkansas, very corrupt regime. Known drug user and fornicator, well doesn't m ake him all bad, except he lied about it. has no spine or backbone. Married the ugliest woman to graduate from Wellsely College and they have most of the uglies there. Was a Rhodes Scholar which means you go off and build your power base, there are no classes and grades to a Rhodes Scholar, they just sort of bump around. Kriss Kristofferson was also a Rhodes Scholar.

Geo W Bush - I just don't know what to say here either. I think most of you have lived thru this one, so your opinions are formed. Not near as destructive to this country as the Mass Media has led you to believe.

Barrack Hussein Obama - Proves that over half of the voting people in this country have their heads up their asses. He was elected by the Mass Media. They villified and lambasted John McCain and Sarah Palin 24/7. This guy will make Jimmy Carter look good. It is a sad time in this country and I am ashamed of anyone that voted for this Socialist.

These are my observations that I have lived through and I hope it gets better before I leave this earth as I would like to die in peace witha smile on my face and a good feeling in my heart! Just my $12.95 worth.

GWB saved lives

GW Bush was not the greatest speaker in the world in fact he sorta sucked at it but you know I felt a hell of a lot safer with him behind the wheel them this Flopping like a fish out of water Odama. That's Oh Dam a. Bush got shit done and saved lives here on U.S. soil. Oh Dam a Is likely to cost lives even on U.S. Soil. If you have not already then I suggest you start a club a club of guys who watch each others backs in a time of crisis which is likely to happen.
Mike aka one dumb ass Republican and proud of it.
Can't buy bullets. shit they are easy to make!
I've never seen a gun kill a single thing. However I did see a trigger being pulled that ignited a gassing powder that expanded and pushed a projectile down a chamber exiting at high velocity and striking a intended target causing severe damage.
Guns don't kill people, People kill people! and if some mother fucker tries to cause bodily harm to me or my family...well you know the answere.

GWB did real work. Made decisions because they were good for the Nation and not because of polling data. His policy of wiretapping saved my city. The lackawana 7 were stopped from blowing Buffalo up because of enhanced interogations and wiretapping. Why does the Canadian media have the balls to report this but American media ignored saving the city from a dirty bomb. God Bless GWB

was a kid playing in his daddy's shoes. He had a competent team (for the most part) who helped him make the right decisions. I still don't know why we invaded Iraq. Regardless, he brought a sense (real or perceived) of security to our country after 9/11 and that is, IMNHBACO, the most important function of the federal government.

basis?

you say reagan was impeachable? i suppose you think carter was the savior of iran contra. thanks to him we have the epa, an agency originally created to cure our dependance on foriegn oil...good job there guys. i really see looking around that johnson's war on poverty was oh so sucessful. last time i rolled through 5th ward in houston, the poor people from johnsons time and their decendants are still there. just what great social problem have the dems solved lately? the poor are still poor. despite heavy taxes, people still smoke and drive suvs, so you aint saving the environment and you aint saving lives. so tell me, just what the hell is bam-bam, the annoited one, gonna straighten out?

Agree

Dems don't solve social problems..they can't. If they ever solved the problems, what the hell would they run on? How the voters haven't noticed that they have been running on the same agenda for decades, without solving one damn problem is beyond me. I personally think both parties need to drop the "social" issues. We the people can manage just fine. Defend my country..set up the International trade..set the monetary policy, and stay the hell out of my life!

But don't you guys see, we need the government to tell us what to eat, what to drive, what to buy, what to think, we need the government to protect us from the bad guys, why would we need guns, just call the police, if your dead before they get there in 30 minutes, that's just too bad. We need the goverment to run our healthcare system for us so they can make the decisions of what medical tests we need and when to have surgery if the almighty government deems it necessary to even have surgery. Afterall, we are all just little simple minded peons. We also all need to be on a Government checks. Just give in, let the government completely take care of you. Afterall, they know best. P.S. I'm being sarcastic, so no hate mail.

Education Bearmeat

Alright Bearmeat, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Take a fucking economics class. A collegiate one by the way, any phD in economics, business or whatever will tell you it takes at least 8 to 12 years before a Presidency has an effect on the economy. So in fact our current economic crisis is from CLINTON. HUH a democrat. The Iraq war hasn't cost 5 trillion dollars that is a crock of shit. The problem is that people that did that projection factored in the cost of every tank, plane, ship, helo, that we already fucking had. The soliders were getting paid regardless so why not get rid of a sick asshole that gassed his own people. He's what I'll say in defense of Bush within the first year of his presidency an attack was launched on American Soil that has not happened since 1941. He launched his counterattack, but he is a human being and in the back of his mind was all the "bullshit" intelligence reports he probably gets 100 times a day. What would you think, you just got attacked by people who hijacked planes with box cutters, and you're getting intelligence that Saddam has whatever he has and you're not gonna do a thing about it? Yea talk about impeachment, if you didn't do something about 9.11 I think treason would be considered, guess what the penalty for that is?

The truth is that we're not paying for the "5 trillion dollar" war yet, because the taxes haven't been increased to pay for it. DUH! We're still paying the same fucking taxes we've always been paying.

Politics of the POTUS position is easy to predict, GOP, Dem, GOP, Dem... not so hard. Wanna know why being the President is probably the hardest job in the world, do you think that we as lowly US citizens actually know what is really going on? Ever heard of classified, confidential, or for eyes only?

Sorry I ranted, and I agree with you samD on your list except for Ike. He actually had nuclear diplomacy which means he actually considered it, historians suggest North Korea demanded a treaty because they knew Ike would probably make them radioactive.

Although I can not read beatmymeat's comments, I still want to contribute to this discussion. I agree with most of what samD wrote in his opening post. I wonder what samD's post would look like if he changed one word: President to leader. I do not consider Carter, Bush, Clinton, or Hussein as leaders. Reagan and "W" were leaders. I was too young to know Nixon and Ford, so it is only through media that I know of these men. I like Nixon, but I read a lot of his books and I agree with a lot of his philosophies, but I can not report on his leadership.

clint

btw, TacDoc is correct in economics. I was taught an 8 year "trickle down" effect from policy to consumer. I can not say if this is still true with the technology and information systems we now have, but I can guarantee you it takes longer than a day. Furthermore, TacDocs assessment of the cost of the war is spot on. I applaud you sir, now if only we could teach logic in communications classes at universities...

Not Iraq, raffy

My guys back in Ft Riley are going to Afghanistan and I'm not going with them. I've been deployed at least part of every year from 2001 to 2008. 2009 is going to see me in the states. This sucks.

Scared, no

People will call me a liar, as they say all men experience fear, but my experiences have all been short, violent affairs and there isn't time to be scared. Sometimes later, back on the FOB, there is the adrenaline dump with the accompanying shakes, tears, or excessive energy followed by total physical crash, but oftentimes, it is just a lot of informal "after action review" with each other around a barrel fire and a pack and a half of cigarettes. I credit a lot of it to the fact that I was very well trained and had quite a bit of experience in the army prior to my first deployment. Many of the young kids have the worst problems because they graduate basic and are put into a vehicle with a couple months' train-up prior to deploying. Personally, I love the feeling of having someone try to kill me and failing. Someone famous said something to that effect, and it's absolutely true. I once had an RPG round detonate just a couple feet from my truck and it felt like a switch was thrown. Everything became clear and focused. There was a bit of radio chatter, "what was that", what's going on, etc... I got on the radios, told everybody to move out, we set up a perimeter well out of any kill zone, and began searching for the shooter. He got away, but we did run over a dog while getting out of the immediate area. Not the same, I know, but it's something, right?

More on deployments

Right after my first Iraq deployment, I came down on orders to Camp Zama, Japan. I signed a declination of continued service agreement, thus terminating the orders, but I also received a bar to reenlistment in the process. My thought was that I had just returned from Iraq, I was in a great position to be able to use my experience to create realistic, effective training for new Soldiers, and the army wanted to send me to Japan for three years. Luckily, one of the personnel clerks found an army regulation saying anyone who receives an award for valor or heroism can have their declination statement witdrawn upon request, so I did it. Then I volunteered to deploy with a serarate platoon to support one of our brigades. I didn't want to leave my wife, but I still find it difficult to train my Soldiers for combat and then send them out to see if it works without being there with them. Train and lead go hand in hand. And now many of the Soldiers I trained and led before and during the last deployment are going back and I'm not with them. Anybody who has ever worn stripes in the army knows what a shitty feeling this is.
