Primers, a question

The question is.
What "power" difference is there between sizes?
Is a small pistol magnum primer twice as strong as a regular small pistol primer?
OK, the questions have been asked. I'm gonna ramble and rant for a bit.

I really wanted to do a "samD" and put a picture of some primers with this question.
Yahoo is my usual search engine. I typed, "ammo primers", nothing.
I'm thinking, ok, kinda vauge. I type "ammunition primers".
The auto complete aided me on this one, automatic score! right? WRONG!
No results found. This kinda raised an eyebrow.
The "did you mean?" link is setting there with "rifle ammunition primers" highlited.
Click, "no results found"!!!!
Yahoo can't find an ammunition or reloading manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler or retailer??
I know I will encounter minimal resistance because of the hassle, but..
All people living under my roof will no longer have a damned yahoo account by the end of this weekend! If I can't do it through reason and assist in every step, then I'll do it with a sledge hammer.

primers

magnum primers are designed to properly light a larger charge and are designed to light powders that are designed for use in magnum cartridges.same same with regular primers.

GP, Is a magnum hotter?
Slower burn rate/bigger charge?
Serious, I've read many articles and loading manuals.
I've used magnum pistol primers in sub sonic .38 special loads.
I can't find any relationship between a regular and a magnum primer.
Is it like twice as strong? 1.5 times?

As I said.
I,ve just never found published answers.
I'm an inquisitive type person.
Honestly, your "about double" is the only answer anyone ever gave me to this question.
Thanks!

Magnum primers are "hotter" than standard primers. CCI/Speer typically recommends that magnum primers be used with ball (or spherical) powders, when loading magnum or other large capacity cases, and when it is anticipated that the cartridges will be used at temperatures below 20 degrees F. Ball powders are generally harder to ignite than flake and extruded powders and magnum primers are often called for, even in non-magnum rifle and pistol cartridges.

I got this off of www.chuckhawks.com/primers.htm

from my 1979 Speer reloading manual:

"Magnum primers contain a greater amount and/or slightly different explosive mix than is used in standard primers. On ignition, mag primers give a longer burning, hotter flame.Their use is recommended for (1)any ammo that will be used at or under zero degrees F.(2)with most ball powders.(3)with slow burning rifle powders like MRP and IMR 4831 in very large cases.Magnum pistol primers often will give more uniform velocities in magnum handgun cartridges loaded with large charges of slow powders like 296,2400,and H110.Magnum primers may be used with faster burning or easy to ignite powders, but normally there will be no advantage in doing so."

the above was quoted from the 1979 Speer reloading manual(good enough Dockit?)

Yes and No!!!! I had a little A&P, (anatomy and physiolgy) of 12ga shotshells last night between Rem. and Win. I found out that Winchester uses some sort of additive in their powder. It smelled of plastic. And today while Im trying to look up the actual difference between the two powders, I learned that Win no longer even does their own powder. They contracted it out to a company called Hodgdon, and I cant get any info on the powder they (Win) used before 2006. Plus the wads are different between the 2 as well. And of course, Win still talks about their "paper" wads, but show nothing, or speak nothing about them actually, other than they "have" used them. UGGHHH!!!!!
GP, do u know anything about shotgun shells??? I dont even know how to read the chart Iv printed off, or just looked @. I was trying to get the statistics on each one I opened up, ie... shot size, Dram. EQ and everything else for comparing the 2 brands, but wouldnt even really notice it right now if it slapped me in the face!!

If you havent noticed from some of my other posts, or should I say, my comments and Q's to other posts, I have this divine need to know things. Even if it doesnt matter, like I'll never ever see that gun in question, or its just not a big deal, If it gets in my head, it stays there till it clicks together, and I get it.... I guess Im just weird like that. But you'r not the first person Iv heard say that about their ammo...

as far as shotshells go unless you are reloading them all you need to understand is shot size and gauge.the rest of it is meaningless.unless you are real f'n bored.all that other stuff dont mean shit to a gunsmith.
