Protecting yourself in California
I just made a post to a comment made about when to use a firearm and I realized that I needed to post my comment as its own topic to get the view of others reading this about how they can legally protect themselves living the great state of California where you can't get a permit to carry a weapon, so only criminals can carry them. Should I carry a weapon anyway knowing that if I get caught I'll go to jail, and then I really will be a criminal, or do I follow the law and run the risk of running into some low life who doesn't care about the laws here or anywhere else? In life we are always having to make decisions. Where do we live? Who will I marry? How many children will I have? What will I eat for breakfast? Most decisions we make are not life threatening. When it comes to making a life threatening decisions you ultimately have to make a decision and hopefully you're decision will not be one that you will later regret making or not making. I would rather be alive and living in a jailhouse for making the right decision, than to live with the fact that I could have saved the live of someone but chose not to because I would be breaking the law. |

California used to be a great place. Until the politicians and special interest groups (rainbow warriors) got ahold of it. I was born here and now I'm working to get the hell out. The people of Calif vote to support the Institution of marriage between a man and a woman. Then a group of judges overturns what millions of people voted for. Don't get me started on the "10 rounds or less" bullshit. I can't even buy the new XDm 9mm! A buddy lives in Arizona, can walk in, lay down the cash, show ID and voila walks out with his purchase in 10 minutes. How many people are killed with knives and cars every year? Are they illegal???? ok rant over sorry, yea I'm in Ca and pissed.

If you want to live and work in California you have to be willing to stick to your convictions and do what you think is best for you and your family.
Ultimately, you are the person they will look to to protect them. You have to do what's best even it means breaking the law.
There are consequences for breaking the law, but there are also consequences for waiting for someone else to you and your family in the event of a home invasion or some idiot pulling out a weapon at a restaurant or a bank that you just to be at.
I'd rather be alive and in jail (which is just a short couple of days in this state anyway) then to leave my family without a father and a provider.
These are the questions that everyone must make a decision about as we live in an increasingly violent world.

I understand your position however not everyone is able to just pick up and move to the state of their choice.
Believe me, I would rather live somewhere else, but with my parent get up in years, and living within 30 minutes of them, its not possible now to just pick up and move.

I went to the website however I couldn't find any information about where to go to apply for a permit or if it was even legal in the county where I live (Contra Costa County)
If you can give me any further guidance I would appreciate it.

One thing you have to realize is that people who are against guns will not stop until just because they managed to outlaw carry and conceal in California.
These people are coming after you and your state next.
You can't run from situations just because you don't like the outcome. You have to be willing to fight for what you believe in and eventually all states are going to have to confront this issue, because these people will not stop until the entire country is gun free.

I work out there about 120 days a year. I have met many wonderful people at Contra Costa gun club. They shoot trap, skeet and highpower.
The people worry about are the wealthy overeducated judgemental shitbags I work for.
It truly feels like a foreign land. The working class is struggling becuase of many social programs straining the state.
Firearms are easy to get illegally. The only people hurt by gun control is the lega lawful person. The law is so confusing you could get jammed up.
